hey lads I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I'm thinking of buying a cressi that has had an engine transplant from a 7m to a 1jz. Its un-engineered but still full grandpa spec (has got a cannon though).
Have heard and read about people getting them licensed without the need of an engineers certificate

My question to you lot is are the police still blitzing the JDM's and yellow stickers?
Are some of you guys and girls YOLOing it all and running the gauntlet with your mods and/or engine change outs? Have you got away with it?
Am I just being a pansy?

I'll let this simmer for the day while I got to sleep (night shift)

I think you're a pansy because you use YOLO in a sentence.

1 major reason to get a vehicle engineered is insurance, you have an accident and its discovered you have an illegal/unengineered engine swap you are going to get fucked with a large pineapple sideways

Got pulled over the other night in an s13 goin over the limit.

Car is def not a legal height among other things that it could have been done for so I thought i was proper farked. Although I'd say its a bit neater than ure average silvia.

Officer : "I clocked you doing XX over the limit, any reason?"
Myself : "Its sunday night, i wanted to get home to eat my cheeseburger and didn't expect to see you guys, shouldn't have been doing it"
Officer : "Ok well its going to be a $$$ fine tonight, please stick to the limit and drive carefully"
Myself : "Yes, wont happen again"

I was happy with the fine. So much BS trying to get an s13 over the pits.

I think as long as you are reasonable and there arn't sparks flying from the bottom/seatbelts missing/ crazy poke or body kits and ure not a tard the chances of getting done by the police are not super high, but there's always a risk and usually its relative to how many cable ties you are running :p

After clocking up more yellow stickers than anyone I know, my advice get it engineered & do it properly. Yeah sure you will still get a defect from a cop who's in that mood, but at least when you go to the pits you can get it off with no extra hassles

Can't be fucked running the gauntlet and going through the extra trouble these days. No way I'd run an engine swap without the appropriate paperwork. That's just me, I'm sure heaps of people get away with it and if it's a grandpa spec car not being driven stupidly, you might not even get looked at.

With the exception of rare cases like the other night where a few of the boys got stickered for nothing, cops are exactly the same as they were a decade ago.

Be a dick, get stickered.

Don't be a dick and you probably haven't got much to worry about.

Yep, my cars never been stickered, have used my 34 as a daily whilst on my P's for the last year. Pass the atittude test and you're usually safe.

Get pulled over with your flat brim on backwards and being a dick and it's no suprise why 90% of s13 drivers are stickered everytime they get pulled over.

Have never been yellowed, have always talked my way out of things, even launching off the line at lights up to 120 km/h with cops behind me.
Even when I gated them in the 32 :)

Hilux got stickered by a cop having a bad day.

Supra is yet to be stickered (touch wood) even after enthusiastic driving and being pulled over.

Both owned for the same time. All depends on attitude I guess, and degree of modification. Only once I had an undercover cop try to tell me my semi-slicks were illegal and the exhaust was "most definitely illegal" on the Supra - I argued the point about the semi-slicks and said the exhaust has been the same since compliance and registration, got threatened with being towed and then promptly left alone. Every other time has been positive with the Police, general nice comments and on the way.

Saying that, the XA will be engineered when finished - not going to take the risk.

I've had cops chase me through peak hour traffic just to pull me over and give me a yellow sticker, was in a lifted hilux with muddies and tint. Unfortunately for me that cop was intent on giving me a sticker from the moment he spotted my 4wd through the traffic. No amount of politeness or right attitude was going to prevent that.
Was given a sticker on a previous bike for fender eliminator but they are pretty much a gimme for the police so again was a done deal at first sight.

I'm usually pretty polite to the police as end of the day they are just doing their job no matter how much I may disagree with it. But soon as a cop comes at me with an agro attitude then its game on as by this stage I have nothing to loose.

Yep I agree with those that say there are times you're going to get a sticker, no matter how you were driving or how polite you are. I was sitting at the lights in my corolla turning left off stirling hwy towards port beach. The hwy patrol boys were sitting at the intersection coming from that direction and turning right onto stirling hwy to go over the bridge. I thought there was no chance they'd get me from there but as soon as the lights went green they did a u-turn and pulled me over. Gave me a yellow despite having permits for most mods and hunted around until he found something, even though I was being very friendly and we were having a good chat about everything.

Another option is to buy the car and try to factor engineering into the negotiations (just allow for 1k or so). Then you can either get the car engineered or drive until you get a yellow and deal with the engineering then?

Hmm still reasonable cops around but in the last 20 years there are definitely more that want to go "by the book" and not bend, and also more intent on finding a reason to give a sticker. This of course in a reaction to the amount of muppets driving around in blatantly illegal cars...low as fuck, stupid exhausts, blinged up, stretched tires etc etc

20 years ago it was rare as fuck to not be able to talk your way out of a speeding fine....or even a bit pissy for that matter.

Never been stickered either including getting pulled up the the VN with stroker, big cam, spool, no cats etc. Cop joked that with all the gauges it looked like the cockpit of a 747 and let me go.

Now that was fucking low!! - but spot on

Back in our young days if you fucked around in town you got stickered - if we took it out of town and harms way, it was never a problem

Then you had the 100% bogans that had the sills of their unroadworthy cars almost dragging on the road that always gave the coppers lip etc and they got hammered but couldnt work out why

Fuck - I don't feel bad for getting a sticker in my younger days... sounds like I actually deserved it.

LX SLR - Smashing around Southwest hwy getting chased whilst on my way camping to Nanga Brook Camp site. Sitting on 240km/h then smashing on the brakes and hit the gravel roads and the chase becomes Dukes of Hazard style. Out run cop and a very short win. Going home a couple of days later said cop pulls me over near Maccs on South West Hwy and Armadale Rd... cop a licky for a diff leak. Cop didn't even look below the car. As he left he just said " nice driving through the gravel".

Bought a EB Fairmont in 1992. Bog laps in Freo... car was about 2 days old. '
Drive into Parry's car park (Cantonoment St) and as I drive out for another lap some dude in a Holden bags out my peacock green Fairmont. So I challenge him in a race to the other end of the car park - first one that parks the car - wins $100. I don't have time to U turn so I just smash it in reverse, half way around the car park I smash the steering full lock and punch the car in D and slide out and drive off forward and park the car. 3 cops watching the whole thing across the road. Sticker for sticky accelerator pedal and a careless driving fine.

Cop one " were going to throw the book at you"
Me " shrugs shoulders"
Cope one " you better have a good excuse"
Me "nope... you sprung me fair and square"

Cop two " where did you learn to drive like that"
Me " back streets"

Cop three.... wrote the sticker and careless driving ticket.....

Many more shenanigans....

if they are going to sticker you they will.

180 got a sticker whilst I was parked. Got done for

- Vented bonnet
- Tyres to thick, as in the tread (new tyres)
- left water nozzle was not shooting in the same position as the right.

He tried to get me for not having a tyre placard and then scolded me for having a freshly painted car

First sticker, was polite the whole time. In saying that the stock 2010 holden ute next to me also copped a sticker from the same officer.

Now that I drive a toyota it seems like they don't even see me lol *touch wood*.

I have noticed a massive difference between city and country cops though, City cops seem to have more of an incentive to yellow just about everything where are country police will compliment you on your car and wish you a good night lol. When there were big events going on like the manji 1500 or targa west the shire would usually call in more police from Perth and that was the only time locals would receive yellow stickers

Same officer ended up in perth and was charged a few years ago for putting up some wire across a track that motorbikes had been using ....

Got stickered on the weekend. 1st after 14 years of driving.

Parked on the side of the road and we had been for an hour or so waiting for a tow truck.

Cops pulled up and got out of the car with stickers in hand and determined to hand them out , so much so they were just making shit up.

Evo has a strut brace from factory...but according to captain fuckwit "It should have been removed when imported to comply with ADRs as ADRs ban struct braces"..and then said it cos in a crash strut braces stop the crumple zones from working as designed.

He then tried to claim the factory evo numberplate mount has a history of maiming pedestrians as it protrudes from the bumper and it also should be removed, but surrendered on that when his partner said his old evo had the same mount.

If you get a fuckwit cop you're get a sticker regardless.

That guy sounds like the sort of shit stain WAPOL really need to put back in line. They do nothing but give the force a bad name. Do they do it just so they have stories to tell one another after work?

EDIT: Which they never will be unless complaint are made and followed up over and over until they are actually acted upon, which is near on impossible.

esky
10-02-2015, 05:37 PM
Complaint won't get anywhere. They were angry cos a car cruise went through the area, which we were part of.

Couldn't hoon law anyone so stickers for all. In the public eye they'll be doing a good thing, stickering modified cars hooning about in the hills.

Does anyone know if you can take the yellow to court..... ie in some of the cases above you would definitely have 'great success' taking the offending officer to court in those instances where you have been sticker-ed for things which are definitely made up......

had a dopey female officer give infringement for going through a red light , when it was clearly amber (and wet) took them on and won, look on her face was priceless just pity it was before camera phones or the officer and me selfie would have been great.

or is that why they can hand out stickers with no evidence as they know they wont get taken to court..... that would have to be the only use of google glass, documenting a dodgy cop pulling the piss out of stuff which is factory on your vehicle and giving you a sticker for it.

They send you off for an inspection because they aren't qualified to do so themselves. They only have to suspect the car is faulty. Well that's my understanding anyway.

11-02-2015, 02:52 PM
^^this, they just have to "suspect" something may need inspection. Plus as the helpful cops have told me in the past the pits will do a full safety inspection so really they are helping me....... yeah right.
