Led Lightbars

Looking at picking up an led lightbar to use as a reverse/camp light on my shorty.
From what I understand 10W LED's are the go - is there anything else I should be looking out for?

i bought mine from jaycar. dunno if they will be that cheap, but if they fuck up least u can take them back in for a warranty.

why wouldn't a roof mounted bar be safer than something in a roo bar?

Actually the absolute arseholes are the rednecks that have roof mounted bars and decide to flick them on cause they werent happy with someone on the road and blind the next suburb.

I think a lot of people need to simmer down, as these kind of lights were never intended for road use at all and the amount of light they give out is well over what is required in ANY road environment. So the fact that we are able to run them at all is a good thing if you multiuse your vehicle. What next though, trophy trucks for cruising the streets and just running over stufff :p

that's why I mounted them to a roof rack that is only fitted to the car when I go bush

I mounted mine in the Roo bar the other day, it's just a cheap 120w eBay job, but fuck it puts out some light, enough that I'll never miss anything on the road or bush ever.
My prado had awesome high beam, really didn't need the light bar too be honest, but it does light up the sides a lot better and makes everything a lot whiter, I'm not sure what model you have, but the 150 certainly isn't lacking.
The only reason I'd think you'd put it on the roof is you have no bar work on the front, considering I've seen them mounted on street cars, I think you could accommodate it easily with some work or even those brackets from super cheap.

yeah I have spots on the bar and I didn't want anything else blocking airflow, the only other place on the 150 is in the grill which I dont want to remove

I was surprised how much light they through out. Went for a jog the other day through some local bush near my house and "ol mate" across from the bush had his on. I was like what the fuck is generating so much light. It lit up the whole bush and no matter where you looked it was as bright as a phosphorous grenade.

Very impressive. Hate to be behind it if he blipped high beam. Would be blinded for sure.

In saying that, keen to one for night 4x4.

cant see what the problem is with regards to the new regulations at least a single light bar is now legal whereas before it was illegal as they had to be mounted in pairs.
Also it has always been illegal in W.A. to have spotties etc mounted above bull bar height. Cops have just never bothered about it unless you were a prick to them and it will be the same now .

Maybe not. Article in the paper the other day where police commissioner wants traffic coppers that are writing infringements for a tail light out or a car lowered to stop and focus on proper traffic duties. I think it was something like
police what's important to the community and not what's important to the traffic officer.

Ruffled a few feathers be he was quoted along the lines of "if a minor infringement comes past my desk the officer will be called in with a please explain. "

Also keep an eye on the local guys, Driven 4x4, SBR Offroad, they all every now and then have decent sales.

And the 4wd show is on 11-13th November so probably be a few bargains to be had there as well.

Don't expect it to be much then brightening up the immediate area around you, long distance they are rubbish, my High beams out perform my bar, it just lights up the side of the road a bit better, good for seeing roo's etc.
Just grab the Supercheap one, unless you drop $900 on a real good one, they are much of a muchness, check it comes with a hraness, if not you'll need to buy one on top of that.

My SUNYEE or whatever the flying fuck it is cost $80 delivered.
Sat under water for 4 hours once, hit a tree etc, still works like the day I got it.
Only advice I can give, bin any wiring harness that comes with a LED light bar, they are usually really shit as fuck.

Just purchase some small China ones for A-pillar flood lamps on the Wrangler, went for the expensive China ones. Mainly because they came with covers. Hopefully they don't let me down, only for sideways visibility anyway.

Cheers guys, i saw the sunyee brand recommended on some other forums after searching on google. I am think of the $90 osram light bar and some flush mount work lights that i am going to install on the inside of the rear door.

How bright are the is the sunyee? Going to use the fog light switch to save running new cables through into the dash, just cant be bothered atm.
