Looking at getting back into riding although lost touch with all the old crew I used to cycle with. Anyone here still ride downhill mtb or skate park/street stuff?

Thought I saw a few people post pictures of their bikes a while back and was wondering if those people are still around!

Keen for some rides, have a ute so can throw all the bikes in the back and head out!

Fark Brett, what did you do?

My downhill bike is an older one and quite heavy so I will struggle riding up a hill :(. Where is the camel farm?

Also ride (more in winter than summer), mixture of down hill and x-country. Will be hitting up Kal a fair bit over Xmas / NYs so hit me up if you're keen.

Overshot the old step up at Goat farm by about 5 metres, punctured a lung, broke ribs/collar bone/shoulder blade and partially fractured hip. I am not as spry as I once was.

How would a hard tail go down the tracks in Kalamunda ect?

I'm keen to head out with yas... normally head to camel farm or just around the thousands of tracks through walliston/pickering brook etc.

rode a hard tail out there a couple of times. downhill is fine obviously but uphill gets tiring as you cant really sit down without getting smashed around.

Just take your DH bike to mundaring. You will blown away by how many new tracks their are andhow busy it gets on the weekend.

I still ride a carbon hard tail, no dramas at all. Just be prepared to get out your seat 90% of the time as it doesn't make for the smoothest ride.

THIS is my biggest fear.. I've had a few close calls at the Goat Farm, and am now very Gun Shy.. Been over the handlebars 3 times this year, and it's not fun... 20 years ago, i was bullet proof.. Oh how age changes your perspective...

I try and get out there as much as I can - but my fitness is far from what it used to be so i struggle on the uphills.

Likewise with Goat Farm, came off badly their earlier this year and also came off hard at Kal on the Luvin' Shovels log ride.

I'm the same Justin haven't ridden in years sold my bikes etc. I still remember you getting some super strong atomlab rims on your bike then shortly after getting a stupid amount of air out of the Manning skate park bowl and flat siding a rim!
Lachy popped up on my FB the other day as "someone I might now" had a look at his profile looks like he lives in BC now, has a bike cafe and is still riding hard.

Tried that fucker 3 times with 0 successful attempts lol.

Some other bloke was filming himself doing the log (was a pretty good rider) and caught 2 of my crashes. Lessons learnt; don't pedal on the actual log if wet and if in doubt, more speed so you don't case the landing!

Used to ride a fair bit of MTB, but sold it all to buy some more fixies.

03-12-2014, 02:01 PM
I did the Camel farm back in January on a hard tail, a few K's in and a few punctures later, I was hesitant to give it all, was pretty nervous about stacking it again, while we were fixing a puncture, a guy binned it hard face first into a rock in front of us, fucked his shit up. That was it, I walked back to the car 3km away.
Bike has sat unused since.

Lol you guys would shit your pants if you rode any of Hills secret trails.

Kala is gay, john forrest is proper trail riding.

Anyway he asked about DH and street/park, mundaring is prime atm. Dwelli is gone as it got logged, nanaup is getting logged soon but is still running just as wild as days gone by.

The 1st log ride you dont need speed but the corner on the landing is what threw me off. The 2nd log ride you kinda need speed as you want to land on the down ramp and not the flat. Today on the 2nd i landed a little shy and back end bounced around and just stayed on. But yeh i was only pedalling on the up-ramp and rolling the logs.

Tony, Kalamunda is still good for some tricky stuff, its not extreme but still good enough.

Recently got back into riding after looking for a cheaper hobby other than cars haha. I've been heading out once a week to Kalamunda trails and ride daily whilst working down at Boddington. Just converted to a 1x9 setup as it's all that's needed for Kal.

Still have my Reign...don't ride as aggressively as I used to though (as with MMM, don't want to break bones). Even contemplated on going down to a 120mm trail/XC bike.

Wow, didn't know there was so many of the guys I used to ride with here. 100% guaranteed I will be shit jumping back on either the dh or street bike but I'm keen either way. Is anyone keen to head to Mundaring in the next few weekends?

And by Mundaring do you mean Devon Valley (I think thats what it was called) or Mt Gunjin?

Mr Mike - I'm running those atomlabs on my dually at the moment :P

Torquen

Mt Gunjin 100 x better if shuttle runs are involved! And yeah I'll be keen from the 20th onwards as I'll have three weeks off work :)

12/18 months ago. Yet to fire a shot in anger. I don't like pain. And realistically it needs stronger springs in it too. Because fat.

Might sell it... Highly doubtful I will ever actually use it anywhere near it's potential, and it's shit to ride to the shops. Or I could just man up and aim it down a hill.

LOL. Obviously have shortened the steer tube etc. I Even put brakes on it.

Monk how much ? ^^

Fuck I dunno man. $500 and I'll throw in new spare tubes, new tyres DH tyres, a set of spare Sun rims that need bearings and truing. Got a heap more stuff like shock oil, shock pump, and heaps more I would have to pull out of the shed.

I spec'd pretty well. XT 10 speed shifter, cassette & chain, Hope M4's, Wolf Tooth chain ring. Hell, everything is new bar the frame, bars, rear shock, bottom bracket, cranks and one of the brake lines. All the linkages, brake levers and crank arms have been ceramic coated. Was meant to be a cheap build using second hand shit, and I think it ended up costing me 1500 bucks! :-p

Pile Rd Dardanup is where you want to be for XC/AM, nothing in Bunbury itself. Wellington Mills for Downhill. Can give you google maps of where it starts etc if interested.

This is Pile Road for the AM/XC stuff.

http://i.imgur.com/J9hCUJ3.jpg

And then a closer view. You can start at the bottom of Boylans ( 7ish km) then make it all the way to the top to start the other trails, or go straight to the middle hut and do all the other trails without running Boylans.

http://i.imgur.com/voTmYF0.jpg

So you can see the 2 stars, the one without the writing is the middle hut. When you drive past the first turn off to the trails, keep going up Pile Road towards Welly Dam, and you'll see another sign saying MTB trails, turn left down here onto the gravel track, and there's another sign pointing towards the hut. Just be careful along this gravel track, it's multi used by 4wds, MTB, and motos.

Usually if I go up i'll just go to the middle and do all the good trails, Wals, Pallet, Lennard short. ( which is off my gps here. )

http://i.imgur.com/YlJAgVH.jpg

But if you're into long rides, Millbrook trail is AM, then ride back up the long Lennards hill, which from memory is around 16ish km. if you add up and down boylans ( another 14), there's a good sunday morning done.

Not too keen on the long ones... Only ride the ups to get to the downs haha..

Thanks for that! ill go check them out this week.

You'd want Wals, Pallet Track, and probably Lenard trail. When you head out there's signs at the huts showing.

Went up there with the bro on Sunday.. It was good fun. A bit more peddling that i would have liked but still felt good at the end of it.

Parked at the bottom and went up Grizzly, did Wals a couple times then back down Grizzly with the most fun being the last 200m haha then did that a few times more.

Cheers for the info. Will definitely going back there again at some point.

Yep, the bottom section was built by 3 Chillis few years ago now, all aimed at pump. Cost the club quite a bit of money to get them into do it, but definitely worth it !
