g'day guys

Lately I've been feeling more and more that the 'Australian Attitude' towards life is being taken advantage of by all the big companies, big wigs and pretty much everyone that seems to have some kind of authority.

Example - Petrol Prices

IIRC the last time the oil price was this low, the prices at the petrol stations were around a dollar a litre... But we're still paying up towards $1.50 a litre for 91octane! yet no one bats a eye lid. I know others things come into play that might up the price to.

Sure that could be a pretty crappy example but it applies to everything, The police, the new traffic infringement fines, the car import tax bullcrap,

So what do you guys feel? Are we being jipped because we take life how it comes and don't complain

Discuss

Whytey wants the kock.

We pay the Australia tax and everyone knows it. Companies make good $$ out of us. It sucks, it isn't going to change any time soon, people will pay it because they can.

Whytey wants to know.

Yeah most people are in a position that they don't care about prices or even need to check the bank accounts to know they can afford things.

It still odd don't you think? People just don't care and accept the price hikes

I'm not that bothered by the fuel prices, got bigger things to worry about than fuel prices.

...........it's way better than the pricing in NZ and other places isn't it?!

I tend to agree.
Remember when they were trying to pass those 'stop and search' laws? A lot of people were so nonchalant about it saying shit like 'if you've done nothing wrong you've got nothing to worry about'. Speak for your fucking self pingpingpingpings, you give these pollies an inch and they will take a mile and stuff like that just sets a precedence for even more draconian laws down the track.

One litre of 95oct in Norway is $2.47. They have their own oil.

Australia may have some weird laws (read nanna-state), but when it comes to taxes etc. they have nothing on other countries in the world.

I'm pretty sure our pricing is pegged to Singapore crude, not the standard "US barrel" pricing you see thrown up all the time.

I'll also contend that you are talking about $1/L which would have been about 10ish years ago? From a business stand point how much was rent, insurance, wages etc back then compared to now? I haven't looked, but I reckon the average wage has increased around 20% over that period.

Yeah always wondered why prices are still high, I went to Brunei some time ago and I remember fuel being below 50c a ltre. I guess the problem here is that you can charge whatever you want for fuel and as long as there is a day where
it's going to be 3 cents cheaper people are going to think it's a great deal carry on.

Fuel is still cheap in the USA
I was paying $3.30 a gallon a few weeks back, so about 85c a litre

I agree with big business ruining everything.. Case in point, small food manufacturers being destroyed by Coles and Woolworths.

The problem in this country is a lack of power on behalf of the ACCC in relation to predatory and other questionable business practices, and overall, a lack of competition which can be attributed to a relatively small population. It's a problem we can't get out of, and yes more competition would help at the consumer end, but at the cost of smaller and family owned suppliers who are squeezed to maintain price margins on behalf of the big guys.

This kind of shit does scare me. Hoon laws, association laws etc. It seems like a gradual erosion of personal and property rights that people aren't going to question because "Speed kills" and "bikies are scary".

Living in a few different countries I think making a comparison on what fuel costs is dumb.

Usa. Might have cheap fuel. .. but next time you need to see a quack or get a few stitches you best be on 500k or take out another loan.

Same for lots of other countries.

Australians complain about everything because you can.

Australia is a fucking awesome place to live. If you think you're being ripped off I challenge you to live somewhere else.

It's one thing to holiday in a country and its another to live there.

Last time I checked you have no borders to another country
you can earn what you want
you have good infrastructure
you can live in comfort

Saw on ABC news last night that Woolworths shares have been taking a steady dive, which they believe is attributed to players like ALDI entering the Australian market, and consumers no longer doing the 'big weekly shop' at one of the two big players, rather shopping at more 'boutique' farmer-direct food markets.

Unfortuately it is too late for those that were squeezed out before this point.

This is the primary reason I don't spend much time in AU anymore, there's an erosion of civil liberties coupled with a ridiculous amount of political correctness. It seems like each year more and more laws are put in place as knee-jerk reactions / vote-fodder. Politicians all want to be seen as contributing something during their term and in most cases it's a new law/regulation to curb some ''problem''.
Cost of living is high but you do get clean roads/access to medical care/water/power, etc, etc...

The many benefits/advantages of Australian living, greatly outweigh the negatives.
I think the only notable thing is the difference between the two is steady decreasing.
All the above mentioned things, combine to erode the benefits of Australian society.

Lord knows if the lot of us don't smarten up and tell the government/big business to eat a dick once in a while, Australia could turn to shit in 10 years!

Exactly right and with all this shit with Islamic State going on in the middle east it just makes it easier for them to take away our rights whilst at the same time acting like they are doing us a favour by keeping us safe.

I don't think anyone is saying Australia is a shit country to live in because we are paying over $1.50 for fuel.
I think for the most part people are saying Australia has been a great country to live in for decades (the fact that we have people lining up in droves to come here kind of proves that) and we don't want to see a good thing ruined.

Just watching the news last night I seen a bunch of sensitive sallies crying because someone jumped on the back of a hammer head shark "oh we need laws put in place immediately to stop this". I mean how often does someone even jump on a shark? Do we really need to be making things like that illegal? I'd say the average person would be more worried about .. you know .. getting killed than copping a $200 fine under a new 'anti shark tackling from boat legislation' that gets rushed through parliament.

If the government didn't and everyone started to jump on sharks imagine the injuries or risks of increased hospital visits. ... free hospital visits. ...

Just a thought. ..

Price reflects average wages in australia. Every twat thinks he is entitled to 100k and because of the pay this pushes up the prices of things as people have more money to spend.

Have basically lived in China for the last 7 months and while things like Taxi's and food \ booze etc are all cheap as hell if i need to go to the hospital there is no way in the world i am going to a hospital over here. Also i will never complain about internet ever again as the internet over here is so fucking retarded its not funny.

On the whole Australia is a pretty good place to live and the only real draw back is being isolated from other countries so to try and get anywhere costs an arm and a leg.

Higher(er) prices, good infrastructure, free healthcare, stable government
VS
bombs going off, riots, disease, shitting in a hole, cheap food and beer

I know what i would rather.....
