If you change to the Sunday that'd be even better LOL

Do the Cockburn carts run steering angles as aggressive as the Wanneroo ones?
My arms were fucked after the 9 laps.
Would be nice to have more karts on track too :D

Still was a great day regardless of the grumbling, thanks for organizing Damo!

Same karts! The wanners ones seemed to have a little more go and brakes took a lot more force to use but apart from that they shouldn't be any different. Mind you my steering had a few inches of free play which didn't effect me out on track but through the pits it was interesting.

You need to harden up if your arms were fucked after 9 laps haha. I was talking with Franz on Saturday and when I used to do enduros we ran 45 or so laps (of the longer 60sec track), I think Franz was saying he has done closer to a 60 lap stint.

Props to everyone for the decent racing, I have been with work functions, other car clubs, enduros (with proper kart drivers) etc and I have never had a field as competitive as the antilag group. Race craft was also very impressive!

FranZ
17-11-2014, 09:01 AM
I think the karts are overall better at Cockburn; I think they might be slightly newer; either that or the people maintaining them do a better job.

Biggest problem with arm pump is most people strangle the wheel; kind of like the first time you go water skiing. You don't need to grip the wheel like its your c0ck. Firm grip but relax on the straights to have a rest. It is easier said than done though. As Simon said, we used to do long stints, I did quite a few at 40-50mins and a couple at an hour. My neck normally goes before the arms though.

I'll second the race craft and competitiveness...there's only a couple of seconds that generally spread the field - not 10-12sec. If we have a packed grid next round and the 3rd race is reverse grid on points, the first 3 laps are going to be mental! I look forward to it!

Alt_F4
17-11-2014, 09:04 AM
Probably just dehydrated, didn't help doing the prac + first session back to back.
I've done much longer stints in carts before, but struggled this time *shrugs*

MGR
17-11-2014, 10:53 AM
Thanks for organising Damo, much appreciated. Shame they let you down with not communicating properly as to how many karts were actually available to run simultaneously.

As someone fortunate enough to drive three different pieces of shit I can assure you that steering weight, balance and power vary alot. First kart pulled hard right. Steering was loaded up 95% of the lap with 30degrees of left lock. Likely a twisted chassis. To bad because this was probably the least slowest motor of the three.

Second kart turned right no problem, but turning left bogged down and was very unstable. Rear tyre had slid in along the axle narrowing the rear track and carving chucks out of the inner sidewall.

Was called in mid race for the next replacement kart. Steering much heavier and the wheel was polished smooth meaning you had to grip like tarzan. Most understeer and the slowest motor of the three. Was getting absolutely pantsed through the long lefts and down the straights.

I don't think anybody expects precision race karts but these examples are very poorly maintained and having a competitive group like this really highlights the inconsistencies.

To say I am pissed off with warrens UFK is an understatement with turning it into a total dick in the fan of an event.

Will call warren tomorrow to let him know my grievances (was supposed to do today but went on yolo safari) based off his response will dictate if I organise another event. As at the moment I am out of pocket, was a shit event i.e. not what I had booked 4 weeks before the event and confirmed 5 days before the event. Total thorn in the balls.
