Looking at an easy sound system in the living/dining/kitchen of the now house

I want to keep it all simple, and thought this looked ok, but would like input here please

Worth it, or not, or better systems??

TIA

I have had sonos for a few years. When I got it there weren't really any alternatives. There are quite a few now, but I haven't used them so I can't compare.

Sonos is pricey (I think?, haven't looked at costs of similar set ups) but it works, it's easy to use, and the speakers are decent quality.

I would say go for it, but maybe weigh up the competition if you can be farked

Mates have it throughout their whole house....hooked up to a set of decks and tower speakers as well as their phones, laptops. Its pretty fucking awesome.

I doubted if the Sonos gear was worth the expense, but once it was all setup I couldn't be happier with it. Sound quality out of such small speakers is fantastic and easy to use

I walked into JB HiFi when I bought mine, looked at them a bit, girl asked "do you need any help" I said "I was keen, but I saw them a lot cheaper online" she asked how much and matched the price I had seen. So they do have some room to move.

From memory Harvey's price was about $100ish under retail for the main play bar and the sub itself as they're priced separately. So not much to move.

See Adam at City West in TVs - tell him Paul sent you - he will look after you if you want to get some prices and a good run down of what you can connect to it, from memory they use the Sonos link stuff to hook up other wireless speakers as well, so your not necessarily limited.

We've got it at work, the stream can cut in an out a bit but I assume that's to do with all the other whizzgadgetry going on here. The app to control the different zones from your phone is functional and easy to use.

Sonos is damn good at what it does, just realize it comes at a premium and that depending on your situation you may be better off doing a traditional speaker system install.

Here's a review of some of their line.
Shows you how the tech works etc.

I have a Yamaha RX-V3800 bi-amping Bowers and Wilkins System 683 speakers and ASW610XP. If I need sound in a different room, I just turn it up haha. My neighbours listen to good music wether they want to or not etc etc LOL.

But the SONOS is excellent at what it does.

Sonos product is simple, aesthetically pleasing, sounds "decent" and does exactly what it says on the box.

Don't expect it to shake any walls or interface with your home theatre's DTS-HD/TrueHD outputs nicely, however.

I've got a full 9.2 system going into the theatre room, but just want a simple easy system for the living room for ordinary tv and a bit of music.

The games room will have its own dedicated system as well.

If you like listening to music it great
You can have different music playing in different zone
And with the music provider you have no ads or
Talk back radio

Just a question.. What's the benefit of Sonos over say using an Airport Express or Apple TV with an iPhone/iPad using Spotify?

Sonos uses its own bridge (modem) to create a secondary network for music only.

I use airport express' and when you start going three zones i find it struggles/drops in and out. Also a pain to fix/troubleshoot when broken.

I'll be buying SONOS after playing with it. Just easier/more dedicated.

And I believe that the Sonos can use it's own special apps too.

ie Spotify on Sonos doesn't stream the audio from your phone to the speakers over Airplay - the speakers themselves stream direct from Spotify you just control what plays.

Am I right?
