It started about 2 weeks ago, My knock level was starting to peak higher than usual ( 40 - 50 )
Then i gave it some love down a straight road, Knock level reached 60 and minutes after a dirty miss fire appeared and this is what i found.

Not cool, So i brought some new plugs, Gapped them blah blah & the miss fire was gone but the knock level was still reasonably high, So i rang ASG and drove it down there...
The first thing Sean assumed is a blocked injector from the ethanol picking up something in the tank. So out the injectors came for a clean & flow test. This is what they found.

They were fairly stumped, Trying to figure out what the hell that is! looked like a sikaflex or electrical tape... Turns out it was apparent electrical tape that has been bothered by the ethanol that has some how ended up in my fuel tank. (Sean assumes dodgy previous fuel pump fitment)

So they cleaned my injectors, Cut open the old fuel filter & cleaned all the sheet they claimed to see in the tank. They said the injectors came up good but 2 were definitely down hence the knock levels going up!
Anyway, I get a call to collect my car as all is well now....

I drive from Malaga to Canning Vale to get home, All is well my knock level is back down (Maxing at 30 - 35) although about half way home a miss fire appears on high boost... So as soon as i get home i took out all 4 plugs and this is what i found.

That is plug #3 & #4 (Left to right)
Plug #1, #2 & #4 are all the same color. Plug #3 is snow white....

So the first thing i did was went to repco, Brought 4 new plugs and gapped them all in case the blocked injector has caused this as i drove to Malaga.
I went for a drive the miss fire was still there & Sparkplug #3 is still snow white.

Next i started removing the plenum to check the injectors myself, This is what i found...

That is injector 1 - 4 ( Left to right )

im SO confused now... The cleanest injector is #3... Plug #3 is the whitest.....

Could this be that its so blocked its not even squirting fuel? I'm going to get these injectors flow tested and cleaned myself... see what comes up.

Where from here... Fuel tank removal ? Has anyone had injectors cleaned and still had sheet in them ? I have absolutely no idea what to do from here so I'm praying someone has had a similar experience & they can guide me from here on. I don't feel like melting a piston.

Replace your fuel filter mate. When I put 10L of E85 in for the first time to flush the lines out, all that black gunk blocked my filter up. (I have a speedflow reusable stainless mesh one)
Caused issues with tuning as injectors were working way too hard.

Have you cleaned the fuel rail out?

Transfer the injector to another cylinder and see if the issue moves

That black gunk is a common problem with evos running e85 (and any other car I presume) Usually the best solution is to run a few tanks of petrol which appears to disolve that gunk from the fuel systems. Guess that depends if you have a duel tune on your car or not. Good luck!
