This is what happens when you're a Yes Man.
About 6 months ago my neighbour over the back fence knocks at my front door about 7pm, introduces her self with some other chick.
says shes getting a small alfresco put out the back and needs her surrounding neighbours to sign that its ok.. didn't get shown any plans nor did I sign
any plans. Was just a list of sigs on an application form from other neighbours. So thinking, its only a small alfresco, I can live with that.
I get home today and open the curtains. I screamed "fucking pingpingpingping" so loud the next suburb over would of heard with the windows shut.
Our living area and kitchen is at the back of the house facing the garden. Windows everywhere for the view. And because im on a hill, normally I can lay in sit in a chair in the back yard and not see any houses, which gives that sort of secluded feeling.
Now everywhere you move you see this.

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx164/bangnrb25/poo3_zps95e932b3.jpg
question is, like building a house. Shouldn't I have to sign the plans too? A flat roof I could of handled. But now I just have an eye sore that's could possibly effect the value of the house. I mean its almost up to the fence line!
Fairly sure now its become a civil issue. If so I'm thinking I will plant some big fuck off trees that push roots under their pavers.
Small alfresco my ass. Its bigger than their house!

considering the height of a normal doorway. Why the hell does it need a gable roof twice the size of the house. Once bitten twice shy, their house is pretty small, and so is their backyard. So when you're told its a small alfresco, you think its going to be to scale of the house.

It's not that bad. Slap a couple of low maintenance native bushes/trees/hedges up. Doubt it would drop resale value much if any and if they're hot, they might chuck a spa under it and sit around drunk and nude.
Sucks getting a shock like that though. Bet you'll be asking more questions if it ever came up again.

Whinge about cum on peoples face, whinge about alfresco, you're one of them old people who will whinge about anything aren't you?
Reason why they didn't choose a flat roof top alfresco because they look shit, the papers they got you to sign, you should have asked for the plans or documents to see which design they chose. That isn't even that big, you'd be lucky it wasn't some yobbo building a massive shed. Cop it on the chin.

Agreed, doesn't seem that big, boohoo you don't feel that secluded anymore. And from one of the pictures it appears that their house is quite close to your fence too and their roof is in line with size of the alfresco (based on the last picture). And +1 for flat top alfresco's look shit. At least they built something decent.

Its probably hard to get a feel of it on pictures of a phone, doesnt look bad when its a small picture. But towering over a backyard it just kills it.
To be honest lbass I didnt see the form that big of a deal, in an area where the council wouldn't even let me have a black roof I figured a structure that big would be even passed if asked for.
The gutter height is higher than the house gutters.
Guess I need to buy some big ass trees.

A fresh box of tampons wouldn't go astray either. They could have put a two story house there if they wanted. It's not like it's the only roof in the picture blocking your amazing views.

It looks equal if not smaller height than their house, it'd be different if it was an ocean view, but if you tilt your head to the right, you'll get a nice of the view of the sky the Goliath like Afresco is blocking. I can take some pics of the sky down my area at Sunset, get it printed real big like, put a wall up to the height of the Alfresco, stick new shiny Sky pic on there, Sorted.
you dont own your view, how far is it from your fence?
if its 750mm (or a 1m, i cant remember), i dont think they needed your approval anyway.
under that, then yes they needed your approval, which it sounds like you gave anyway

excuse me if I sound like I have sand in my vagina. But its pretty frustrating when the 4x4m shed that I built, I purposely chose to put it on the other side of the yard and not much higher than the fence. I did my research so that I could pick something that wouldn't annoy the neighbours from seeing a gable roof sitting a bit higher than the fence. I spent many phone calls to council engineering to ensure I could do everything I could to avoid people having a crack at it. I also moved it where I did so when I looked outside the shed couldn't be seen... then spending near on 10 grand on landscaping to get it exactly how I wanted it. Then for them not to even hint when im signing their application form they planned on something large is quite rude. I always try to do the right thing by people and think about others before myself...
clearly I signed something I shouldn't have, and shit happens.

Not sure what your yard looks like cause im at work and the pics arent loading but you could buy some bamboos and run them along the fence line where their alfresco is. They grow really fast and look great (IMO).
You can either get clumping bamboo which doesnt send out runners and is easy to maintain or if you feel like revenge you can get the traditional one which will run under the fence and probably push up their pavers etc.

My neighbour didnt like it, but it is within guidelines even if he did disapprove - State Administrative Tribunal is always there to help.

I suggest you burn down the council offices, then pretend to hang yourself from the gable end, that will teach them*
* suicide is bad mmmkkkky,
I have an existing shed built on 2 boundaries when I purchased my block.. and in a very rare cirumstance, the City of Vincent approved it retrospectively when I put my house plans through.
The only catch is, if I want to rebuild the shed, it has to be placed 1m off each boundary. What is rebuild though? If I reclad the shed, thats not rebuilding, thats "repairing storm damage". If I replace the frame, thats also "repairing storm damage". The existing slab will remain.

2) Things like this are a post in the "little things that annoy you" thread.

lol @ this thread.
I probably should not weigh in on this as i am brand new to this forum but i've just got to get this off my chest.(so long term AL.com members,no offence!).
When i got torn a new one a while back, over some thing i said was mis interpreted,i obviously worded it wrong,my bad,i've had to realise it made me look stupid, cop it on the chin and move forward, but i never stooped to telling any one to "get fucked" or such because they offered an opinion on something you whanted comment on.You were more than happy to rip into me and now it has come back, you have had a tanty and start saying shit like this, seriously harden the fuck up and take it like a man!,and ive copped it again since because my spelling is not export quality, once again ive copped it on the chin and moved on.The difference is i can take shit just like i can dish it out.
I think this is a classic example of how "people in glass houses should not throw stones".
/end rant.
Alright chap, this picture is for you.

Why? Well, Your spelling and grammar is still fucked.
Behind a comma, you should add a space.
I (as in yourself) should be in capital.
Ive has an apostrophe in it, example: I've, short for I have.

I never had any such problems, I just pretended to be homosexual and 90% of the members here were scared of me. Internet hardpingpingpingping > Internet rearpingpingpingping
The other 10% hit on you. And remember 10% of 5306 is 530 members. Thats a lot of booty calls.

Haha, thank you FINALLY someone taking the time to start to inform me where i'm going wrong, instead of just paying me out :D , I already knew a couple of those points but I have just been getting slack, I will continue to try and keep improving.

^^ lol Yes it is, I'm Australian born and raised. At least I admit I have dropped the ball some-what with my typing ect (unlike others), I guess my online Spelling & Grammar has been yet another victim of the Internet. I honestly had no idea just how poor it had obviously become before signing up to these forums. To avoid pissing people off i am taking steps to get it back up to par, As stated above :)

Just tunnel underneath their alfresco cover and gradually lower the support beams at a rate of 1cm a day. Do this until it's flush with the house or no longer blocking your view, problem solvered.
Build a bridge, which I'd imagine requires neighbours' signatures, but hey, they owe you one. Then get over it...
