G'day
I am looking at pouring 3 x 12m^3 (3m x 2m x 2m) concrete blocks in the next week or so and have been quoted something ridiculous to get the form work built for them,
(over $24k) so I am looking at doing it myself. Man power to get the job done isnt an issue, I just need to know some rough specs on what form work we will need.
The blocks will be used for an air leg drilling competition next year in Kalgoorlie

you can see the rough size of the blocks here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can tell you how to not to do it. Built formwork once for something about 3 times what you're talking about. Thought I done good.
Put the vibrator in the concrete and the formwork... well it lost all its form...
Fuck.....
Maybe PM Magic1... he should know.

call RMD (formwork suppllier) if you buy the formwork from them they provide you with a design,
This might help:

I'm no expert, but you are attempting to cast 3 x near enough 30T concrete blocks; the pressure on the form-work will be pretty immense given the broad squat nature of what you are making, particularly at the base......maybe $24k isn't entirely unreasonable?

As Huggy said it isn't that unreasonable depending on where you need these cast, and I take it it will be near Kal?
I came up with about $18,500 approx. to cast these blocks on Perth supply and labour prices. And that is without reo. And I'll assume you will need some bar to support the concrete block.
Plus it is a small amount of concrete, 36m3, and small amount of formwork and the concrete guys adjust thier prices up for small one off jobs.

Yeah I realise the pressures it will be under but it has been done before, I just cant get anyone to tell me what they did to get the job done haha

errrr that is mass concrete.
cooling and shrinkage will be an issue.
while 24k seems a lot it depends on your requirements.
happy to look at it for you but not for free.

Could you cast these in the ground ?
Obviously if it was compacted prior etc.

I highly doubt it, the hole would be 2m deep therefore over head high and will need over excavation for safety reasons. Plus you will still need Class 4 sacrificial formwork.
Then crane hire to lift it out the ground.

This is why I only fix fucked concrete, not cast it :)

As a very rough guide expect to pay circa $2k / m3 for formed concrete. Supply and install. That is a pretty simple shape but reasonably remote location.
