Hey guys

Well I was driving home today from work and I noticed that my Aristo did not seem right, I was traveling at 100km/h on the freeway and I could feel the car losing acceleration intermediately. I checked the revs and it was not reflecting
the acceleration loss though when I checked the boost gauge I could see the needle moving up and down slightly (like wiggling lol) pretty much matching power loss feel at the same time. Boosting feels alright, it's hard to tell with such a
laggy turbo though.

Then, when I take my foot off the accelerator the revs jump down quicker than usual, the car did not have it's usual drone noise as well sounded too quiet when decelerating, As I got into the streets doing 50km/h the revs would drop
down almost to the point of stalling and the engine light would come on momentarily before going back up the normal rev range.

Not sure what's going on as it has been running really well up until this point, anything obvious I should be checking?

2ZJ, AR70 + gate, HKS exhausts, intercooler, haltech ecu - tuned...

- Temps are fine
- Oil is good
- Could not see any immediate boost leaks, will have a better look during the day however.
- there is a zuast leak on the drivers side though that has been there for some time

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Possible auto issue causing it to decelerate ?

Check your map sensor hose has not popped off or has a hole in it.

whats it doing at idle? Have a poke around the manifold at any vac lines or even canister vapor lines to make sure they haven't come off.

Might be, though would be unrelated to the boost going up and down?

Check your map sensor hose has not popped off or has a hole in it.

Will do that in a sec, that's over near the throttle body?

Idle is normal, had look just then and look's like nothing has come off from what I can see.

Map sensor will be on a little metal bracket on the passenger side of the firewall with one hose coming off it.
Follow that all the way to the manifold unless it is using the haltech map sensor.

alrighty, I think I may have found it (hoping i have lol)
I noticed on the MAP sensor that there was a rubber hose connected underneath it which just led to no where, I could not find where that was meant to be connected to or if it is even meant to be connected - see picture below.

Edit
Bugger, apparently it's meant to be like that according to the Internet - Back to square one lol

Maybe it is running off the haltech map sensor.

When was the last time it saw a fresh fuel filter?

If it flashed the engine light the best bet is hook up a scan tool and see what code it threw, quickest path to diagnosing the issue.

Dont these have a black diagnostic box in the engine bay you jump pins on and count the flashes on dash? Unless it only works with the original ecu.

Not too sure, haven't had the car for very long.

With replacing the fuel filter is it located underneath the passenger side area?

Electrical
lol, hope to god it's not!

Do you know where I could get one of those?, I'm assuming not as easy as getting an OBDx scanner and brining up codes on my phone

unsure if that would work with my dash, it's from another model that had cruise control (mine does not) would not know how accurate it would be.

dash cluster plugs the same as the original? If so it should work. Especially seeing you had a light come up and go. If there is a code thrown it should flash. Count the flashes and delays.

ie..

5 flashes, delay, 1 flash, long delay = code 51

if you get another set of different flashes after the long delay, then its the next code thrown.

Alrighty, I'll give that a go

shit batch of fuel?

I noticed the symptoms just before fueling up a full tank on shell 98

this looks to be a good guide on diag codes/how to for the 2J. Thats for a supra, but will be the same diag plug and codes more or less.

Yes a compatible scanner that links to your phone would work

Look's like the diag mode does not work, tried a few combinations.

I decided to play it safe for now and book the car in at WTF.

Also after some Internet detective work, looks like this is Miggy's old Aristo :)

Just been thru a similar problem on my 90, seemed like a misfire all the time.
Put new plugs in, then new coil packs. Turns out some stupid little noise filter up next to the igniter module had died.
Unplugged it and problem disappeared instantly.
