Have moved into my new house and wouldn't mind getting a security system installed. I don't want some crime stoppers 1fps and 4 pixels resolution so you can't see dick and are worthless AKA

Also don't want anything expensive, but I've been looking at these 720p China NVR systems that come in under $400 for 4 camera, the NVR and a hard drive with access over internet or android.

Does anyone have experience with systems like this or suggestions of alternatives?

I've looked at similar systems and I just picked up this kit:
http://www.swannstore.com.au/dvrs-kits/f-swnvk-870824.html
Says refurbed but mine was new.

Kogan have also dropped the price on the same kit
http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/swann-8-channel-720p-network-video-recorder-4-x-nhd-806-cameras-swnvk-870824/

The hardware is probably much of a muchness but the reason I got the Swann over the China ones is due to the server and app support being much better. I've got colleagues with the cheaper kits and they have issues with connectivity whereas Swann seems to be fairly stable.

I've only just taken it out of the box to test - Image is not really good enough to zoom in on number plates at distance but more than enough to pull an image good enough to get clear facial recognition.

The Power over Ethernet is also good, as it's one less cable to run.

I'd avoid something like this with an exposed cable to the camera

+1 for Tim. He fixed up our alarm system - great bloke.

Will be looking at a security system eventually through him also.
