Hi All,
Sorry to bombard the 'Off Topic' thread with yet another 'Antilag Detectives' thread but I need the help of the community to flush out a scum-bag.
I'd would like to acknowledge the top bloke (or woman) that saw the incident and took the time to leave me a note, thank you very much. Chances are slim it was someone on here but Perth is small and if you are, good on you champ.
I was parked in the CPP James St car park last (opposite Rosie O'Grady's), whilst my car was there someone in a SILVER HILUX UTE WITH ALUMINIUM TRAY backed into my tail light and bumper. They drove off without leaving a note but as I mentioned above, someone was kind enough to come over and leave me a note about what they witnessed.
The plate was apparently 1DDC-555 or 1DDC-559. If anyone see's where this silver Hilux is parked, I'd really appreciate if you could let me know. I want to go have a chat with the owner and see if I can persuade them to give me the details I need for my insurance.
Here is a picture of the note that was left:

Thanks for the advice guys, I have put in a police report using the online form.
Interestingly enough, when I entered both of the plates above into the 'Other Vehicle' section, it did not identify either of the plates as being registered to a Hilux. I can only assume the witness must have got the plates slightly wrong, so if anyone sees anything similar to the plates listed above, I'd still be interested to hear about it.
CPP won't release the CCTV footage to anyone but the police.

That or the person who left the note is actually the damager, made it look like he was leaving details but instead left a note with a fake plate/car description?

touché, that thought crossed my mind as well.
I don't expect there is much the cops can/will do but doesn't hurt to have it logged in the system anyway. I have had a mate point out that the 'C' might actually be an 'L'. Searching using an 'L' did yield a lookup for a tray-back hilux but it said it was white not silver, so that may just be another red herring as well.

1) Lodge Police Report
Police are very back logged at the moment, will take approximately 3-6 months to do anything on it (if anything at all)
2) Put in a freedom of information request (http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Aboutus/FreedomofInformation/tabid/953/Default.aspx) on your police report number to get the other parties name and address (costs $30)
3) Provide the other parties address and or phone number to your insurer.
Most insurers will make you pay excess unless you have their address and/or phone number.
Police wont give this information out willy nilly.
You could ask CPP for footage in and around the time of the accident which would have the Hilux's number plate on it, but the chances of them actually giving it to you is buckleys.
Basically its bad luck and you'll just have to cough up.

Pretty much expected that to be the case but I thought it would be worth trying my luck and seeing if anything comes from posting something here or on Facebook. I'll put in a freedom of information request (cheers for the link), don't know how successful I'll be given the ambiguity of the plate number.
Hell, even if I happened to get in contact with the guy who left the note, that would be worthwhile in itself. They could tell me which letters they were quite sure of and tell me if the 3rd alpha character is a 'C' or an 'L'.
To be honest, forking over cash out of my pocket sucks but it's not just the cash. I'd just really like to see the scum-bag held accountable, though I do absolutely realize how unlikely it is that will eventuate.

You WILL NOT get third party personal information (name and address) via FOI.
This is the one you need for that. http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Ourservices/InformationAccess/AbridgedCrashReport/tabid/2021/Default.aspx

Tell Bev you're a friend of Mels :) Best part is Bev isn't even a cop but she will happily run the plate to get the details ..

If she puts in someones rego thats flaged like an important person or person of intrest she will get called strait to the head honchos office and fired unless it was part of a job she is doing. Thats how she will be caught. A freind in the po po a few years back was just doing his job and keyed in a name incorrectly then corrected the mistake , finished his job then got called into the bosses office and asking why he was running that name. He had to show the name on the work he was doing to proove it was just a mistake.
If she gives details of a rego then the guy ends up beaten the fuck out of for " no reason" that they know of, police do a simple search to see if his rego or name has been looked up then that person who did it will have mega explaining to do. I suggest delete he name and area off asap ;)
