Recently got myself a JZX90 Mk2
Already has a few things done, i need more.
Whats on when purchased:
Dumps
Exhaust
Blitz FMIC
Pod
HKS Turbo timer
10psi
Transcooler
2J water pump
JZX100 Rad
Whats on since:
MV Auto's 1.5 shift kit and controller.
2J Injectors
Has been dyno'd for a health check, All is fine and while it made decent whp i need more already.
Couple q's.
EBC / FCD - Worth getting? Or should i just wire in a Haltech or the like?
I already hit fuel cut only in 1st and on very cold morning's / night's. If i threw in an EBC + FCD, how far could i push the stock ecu, bottom end, gbox and more importantly the twin's?
A lot of people on different sites say different things. some 15psi some 18 etc. Personally i think 12 would be ideal for longevity as my daily.
Staying auto's a priority too, I'm lazy.
Have already worked out a rough budget for a quality, proper single turbo package incl everything needed to run well. BUT I'm debating if its worth matching the value of the car with what it will cost to got single the right way.

I have done and tried all of the above, 2j injectors are good for around 350hp. I was running my stock twins on 18psi with electronic boost controller and they lasted for ages, in saying that though they are hit and miss. If your keeping the stock twins standard ecu with boost cut and ebc will be fine. The block can handle quite a bit of power. I ending up putting a gt35 on myn because I wanted more power and engine was nice and healthy. The box is also a hit and miss, some last for ages some dont, they are not worth rebuilding because if it goes bang you can pick up a replacement box for less than $200.

Gear box wise I am currently running a Aristo auto behind my 2jz which has 450ish hp and has lasted for around 2 years and still going strong, other people that I know have blown them up with a lot let power and abuse.
Block, Box ect will all hold stock twins power, twins will pop before anything. As said before hit and miss i've had mates smash 17psi for years no worrys, and i've had a set pop on me @ 14psi on the freeway.
Currently making over 500whp (not hubs) through a standard 1jz and stock box. seems to be holding fine at the moment, the thing that kills these boxes is trans temp. get a good cooler on like you have at with twins should last forever.
I should mention I'm running E85 and have a 4k stall on the box. Could push more boost easily for more power but i believe box is at it's limits currently.

I have twin trans coolers mounted right at the front of the car, keeps it nice and cool.

The trans cooler that's fitted is almost the same size as the fmic.
Engines a healthy one. So is the trans. Twins seem fine too. So to cut it short, EBC and FCD will be a safe option?. Limiting boost say a bar.

Yeah I would just run ebc and fcd, I was running 18psi and did so for ages with no problem.

That was with the 2jz injectors getting close to max.

Don't get a fuel cut defender, its a poor way to get around boost cut and does more harm than good. Get a haltech interceptor instead and a HDi boost controller as they are much easier to set up than a profec.
2jz injectors with Haltech Interceptor will get you 340ish on 17psi and will do it all day. Boxes are most definitely hit and miss but you should have no problem with a big cooler. Make sure to do the trans fluid every 5000kms as they are quite fragile.
I'm throwing my second auto in the bin on Saturday, so if you want to buy a Mv's 3200 stall and B&M shifter brackets, let me know

There's a hi controller on Gumtree that I was intending on buying at some time this week. Babies take a heap of time.
Will look into the interceptor unit today too.
What's the deal with the shifter brackets? Stall sounds deluxe too.

They're made by MV's so you can run a B&M Pro ratchet shifter. Pm me about stall dude.

When I had a EBC and FCD I also had a wideband to keep an eye on the afr, they were perfect at 18psi, would run a little rich when unload load. If you know you are going to go single then get the haltech otherwise I would just just the EBC and FCD for the stock twins.

Single will happen one day when the twins die. I've still got pte 6266 sitting around.
To save coin down the track I'd be better off going for some proper ems now rather than using a selection of sensor benders.
I still used the interceptor with my single conversion as it can control timing as well, to an extent.

What u think about just an safc2 ?

Brockas was getting good results from his with just an SAFC, I think 350 with a single no worries.
See if you can find someone flogging off a SITC for the timing, although they are rare these days, try the Jap Facebook pages.
With the auto, do a proper flush, not just a dump and replace. some guys have run 2 coolers to be on the safe side, good thing is, they are cheap to replace :)

Glove box full of benders. Hpi volume 5 spec. That's where it's at.
I may get a second trans cooler further down the track. I'll take a pic of the one fitted, def not a small one.

I ran one of them as well before the interceptor. Only got 284rwhp on 17psi though

If your plans are to go single just get an ecu, my twins lasted 3 years on 18psi and they were still going good, went single as alternator died and just did it all at the same time as was a pain in the ass to get to one of the bolts with the stock twins.

I put Sack's interceptor into my manual supra. They're much better than an Safc. FYI 350@16psi with 440cc injectors and T67. Fuel pump was the limiting factor.

Bit the bullet, Haltech ps1000 on its way.
Off to WTF then to let tristan work his magic?

I'll install it, wiring is the easy part. Probably have asg do the tuning.

Awesome work, how much power you looking at getting?
Simon

For now in its current state, it's making good whp. Just want to unlock what I can now without pushing these twins much over 14.7psi.
When the time comes to go to single turbo, I'd be happy with about 400 thru an auto. It is still my family car.
Allstar didn't want to touch my Haltech. Have you checked with Sean?
Simon

I haven't made any calls yet, once the ecu's in my hands I'll make a booking somewhere for the tuning and get started on install.
Already wasting time at work pricing 6boosts haha
Sean dislikes tuning Haltechs, best bet is ovaboost or WTF
