After 20 odd years of manual labour, age and injury has caught up with me, want to start looking at a less physically demanding role.
I really have no idea what to do, I've been a fitter on and off for over 10 years, with car stuff in between, also done some construction/maintenance stuff.
I don't expect to walk into a high paying role off the bat, just some ideas would be handy.
stumps.

Go into some kind of sales.
But seriously - Sales
If you have some back ground experience - apply for some trainee positions in somthing you have an interest in and go from there
Orrr buy an isagenix business!
Try and get into an SHE/HSE role. Having that trade background will definitely help as it can be a hard field to get into. But from what I hear, heaps of people with no actual job/life experience and skills are getting jobs.

why not use that experience as an advantage.. You have the knowledge and know how, thats gold if you can use that for a sales perspective in the same industry. Need more sales people in the world who have hands on experience who know what they're talking about and understand what they're selling. I was a 4x4 fitter for a while.. More pay sitting behind a desk and I dont have to get my hands dirty or deal with hot and cold weather.
just remember what ever you do, there is always problems within the job. If you move somewhere to get away from something
or a task, it will just open up another one for you to hate at your next job.

Yeah Sales would be an option, as long as no cold calling, might do a search on Seek and see whats around trainee wise.
Kurbn, not for ARB by chance?

Defs isagenix for some inspiring sales
You will retire in a week after making some attractive posters with various fonts and creating an inspiring facebook group where you post generic stock “motivation” photos.
Atb
But seriously, HSE, Quality control, procurement (for workshops and such), sales

Kurbn, not for ARB by chance?
sure was. Head office in c/vale then worked at rockingham 4x4 as their main fitter just as ARB pulled their branding away from them.

+1 for sales.
Best would be looking at industrial products you have experience with from current/previous jobs, as that will help get your foot in the door.
If you've had much exposure to engineering drawings, it might be worth the transition to drafting, it'll only take a TAFE short course to give you the basics, the rest you'll pickup on the job.
I reckon the best job would be a commercial/retail property on site manager.
Pays well compared to the workload and stress, not hard on your body.
Pre requisite is to not be a retard and you need to be good with people.
The only problem is, most of these jobs get taken by people with property experience. However, your practical trade experience goes a long way into how proficienct you would be from a facilities management perspective.

We might be hiring soon, bearings, power transmission & engineered services. would start internal sales, on the counter and phones. if you have mechanical knowledge you could go well.
start off pay will probably be rubbish, but there is plenty of scope to progress through the company, as well as through sister companies.

Liking the options guys, cheers.
Might be interested Beatle, figured I'd start at the bottom any way.

After 12 years spray painting I took an office/sales job selling spray painting and sandblasting equipment. Figured I could cross over some of my industry knowledge. At first it was great I was clean and not breathing in toxic shit all day. Quickly learnt the computer invoice system and got my head around what suppliers supply what and so on.
But after a while I started to get annoyed dealing with dickhead customers and time wasters. A slowing industry and pressure from management to make sales wasnt commission based but still had targets, I eventually had enough.
Having been in workshops my entire working life moving to an office setting was a major change in the way I had to conduct myself and i found the constant need to submit reports on what I had been doing and what I expect to do was a pain in the arse.
After a year i jacked it in and am now back on the tools doing what i know.

^ This or if you can back your mechanical trade background with some decent filler BHP & RIO have Con Mon/Machine Health Advisor type roles that are suited for burnt out Mechanical Trades People.

Good luck getting into a Rio HSE role with no prior quals.. even the asset health jobs would be difficult with the amount internal applicants for those roles.

This is what I have just done,
18 years plastering finally caught up with me and me knees are fucked
It took a while to get a job as most don't want to really know you unless you have the Tafe training, I lucked out and got a role in a small builder and have already been offered a site supervisors role after 6 months in the office

I reckon 50% of people in mining construction have completed a Cert IV trying to get into OH+S on the cushy role. It was like a generic course offered to employees for the company to be seen as offering "training".
You would be jumping in a very over-crowded pool.....
