View Full Version : Get your Rally On

So, for wanna be rally types (like moi), the mid year rallysprint is coming up real fast. 20th July at the flanno-plex, where on a good day you can smell the bogan in the air. Not on this day however (I'm leaving the commode at home).
Morning - Rally rides session. If you know someone with a rally car who has entered, start pestering them for a ride now. Sold out.
Arvo - Rallysprint; also sold out. Spectating is good however.
All day - round of the state motorkhana championship.
All day - Polaris buggy rides. I should try get there in the morning and have a go this year. Looks like fun.
I'll be trying for 2WD honours, and no doubt failing again. New rear boots on the way, so that's my 'secret' weapon to beat Steve's Elise. Also my co-driver 2X044 (aka deadweight) has rather fortuitously got sick, hasn't been training and hence lost weight. Good man.
Entry list shows the usual gang of idiots have entered the rallysprint. B-Boy Butler will be there, even El Presidente will be there - get ready to bow and golf clap.
Fine weather guaranteed*.
(May or may not be entirely true. If not I'll suck, badly, or at least worse than usual.)

Looking at the entry list, its going to be a pretty tough class.
Some very, very quick and competitive cars coming out - going to be a great day.

First event driving, was navi last round and had an absolute ball.
Will be good to see how the little shopping trolley performs in its current form.
Come say gday if you see the 458 wannabe about.

Have entered the arvo session. Final run for the Z33 before it goes up for sale. In no way shooting for top spot, but fuck these events are great fun!

Yeah, paying out on Denver is too easy Buckets. I'll thank you not for giving me images in my mind I'd rather not have.
More importantly, when are you getting out there to challenge for 2WD supreme universal rally being honours? Get your Unicorn on!

Unicorn is being woken up again in the next few weeks as it's getting sent for paint.
After that who knows. I quite like the idea of it sat in it's corner not burning another huge hole in my bank account for a while.
As for challenging for any of the silverware that is not even on the radar for now. I'm sure the car could do it, the driver on the other hand is a talentless mong and doesn't quite have what it takes to tame the shitboxes bad habits yet.

Entry start order is up on the website. Looks like it's been seeded based on expected times. Looks nasty at the pointy end. Gonna need a few of the grown-ups to have issues for us to match last years results!
Not that it matters - showers and thunderstorms possible will wipe out any chance we had. New back tyres fitted yesterday at least, but NT01's are not a wet friendly looking thing so far as tread (lack of) goes. Neverminding aquaplaning, any dampness and I can't use the power advantage I rely on. Oh well, should be fun/scary.

I'll be along to watch but pulled my entry the other day for a couple reasons. Unfortunately Chris's targa car is still in getting a 4th gear fix up, so I can't co-drive for him either.
I'll just have to watch the slip 'n' slide from the sidelines this time..
I hope the weather's decent though!

Come out in the motorkhana Alex
Steve has a broken hand and damaged tendon from his off in Albany Julian so there is one spot

18-07-2014, 07:38 PM
That's bad news about Steve. I knew his hand got hurt when he went off, but didn't realise it ended up so serious. Plus he had to drive back to perth in his car that Monday from Albany. Harder man than I...plus he still knocked me off by a few 10's too!
I should bring the daily if its pouring all Sunday. Has new tyres all round and will probably be faster if soaking wet...nah. That's loser talk right there.

18-07-2014, 08:10 PM
He didn't think it was that bad either, after a few weeks and the pain hadn't gone away he went and got a MRI which showed the damage
I saw him last Sunday and he had only just got a split on it
I think both Dad and Gary have been seeded on reputation as there is no way they should be that high in the order in the Wrx

Great day. Perfect weather and a quality field to find your own marker to try beat. Heaps of Tarmac rally cars to see in the morning, but was a bit late to catch much action. Alex wins nav whore award by far from what I saw. And he was/is good with that I'm sure!
New NT01 rear boots were great, and car ran well every run. Hats off to Steve, who finished 3rd outright again in his Elise! We pushed hard, but he was gapping us by 1.5 sec by his last run. We managed 5th, which is realistically better than we expected.
And the sound plus silliness of McRae in the 0 car was something else. Gotta get me a ride with him! Who do I have to sleep with? Don't let it be Alex...

Car sounded awesome as usual Julian!
An awesome mix of cars out, weather was awesome, and the drift shenanigans of the escort was awesome.
Had an awesome last event in the Z33. Finished up with a 2.35.8 and zero issues. All back of the bus n shit place wise, but 18th in class & 46th overall which I am more than happy with. Bring on the new car and hopefully being a little more competitive.

Had a Blast! we come 2nd in Class, The other Black Civic is just way too fast for us to catch.
10 Sec different on every single run....
Best run of the day 2:33.07. and has been consistent for the next couple of runs.
Well, we know what to improves on to catch that car.
Our tyres were shagged so I'm glad the rain stayed away. This course layout really needs some e-brake assistance but the last time I did that in competition I blew up just about every mechanical piece between the fly wheel and tyres, and emptied the entire contents of my gearbox in the process - cancelling the stage for all those following.
Excellent times from Steve's Lotus and Julian's GT40 as usual. Amazing work from the 2WDs.
Here's our 4th run with a 2:11.32

Aaargh. I just saw some of my footage and then looked at yours Mark. I may have to take up a hobby more my speed, like knitting. That video is just insane! Well done. Pity the competition had their Targa West spec setups on and you were off on your own for speed. Didn't look like the lack of competition slowed you down in any case.
HotAE92 - ah, so you had the virginial white ST! Looks like fun, saw it run a couple of times, good stuff. Gutsy trying a rallysprint as your first motorsport event! At least it was a daylight one, which helps.
C.rusli - yeah, dunno about catching that other civic. It was off tap. But still, gotta aim for something I guess. I can't work out how to get 1.5 seconds I need, let alone 10...

Similar packaged but He had more advantages in Final drives, more bolt on power (cams, Intake manifold, Throttle body) and A050's
while ours is just a stock Motor and box with RS3 Hankooks.
5.1 ratio gear would make a huge pick up in accelerations and use all the 6 speed gears.
with standard 4.9 ratio we only just managed to get to 5th at back straight.
Also Watching from in car footage, tyres is the biggest issue we have as we lost lots of times in corner speed entry and exits (wheel spins power out).
On plus side is that we have our self a benchmark where we can head to and try to see if we can match up on the full event in few months :D
Was there anybody taking video footage that wasn't on-board?
Tonnes of onboard video available but not much external stuff.

There was heaps and heaps of video cameras and flashes going off yesterday, I don't think anyone is doing any compilations though.
The photographer standing in the middle of the gravel uphill section ... balls of steel.

Shame. There's probably tonnes of SD card footage that never sees the light of day.
I reckon photographers would have more chance selling quality video footage than still photos.

Cheers Julian. Yeah it was an eye opener and was having to take it a little easy seeing as it's the other-halfs car. Think I will have to eventually get a designated bunky race car - especially when I pull a rookie move like this on the 2nd run. Consider the virgin 'broken in'.

Yet another boring in-car video. Bring on some external footage! Well I do have some from on top of my roof if that counts as external, another looking down an intake trumpet (cool to see the throttle plate moving, injector pulsing and some stand-off happening) and another looking at us two getting shook up in the cockpit. But this one is as good as any, thanks to 2X044 for the gopro, count-in and ballast efforts on the day.

I had my first run in the evo on the weekend. Probably the best fun I have ever had in a car. Took it pretty easy to start to build some confidence in the car, and not wanting to hit anything. Dropped something like 5 seconds in my second run and another 3 in my third. Turns out the car handles like an absolute pile of shit. A combination of an open front diff (Torsen not working at all), and ACD ECU tripping out, it was literally like driving a bad FWD car, corner speed was woeful, and exit I had to wait until I had the wheels straight to get on the gas, any steering input and it just blazes the inside front. Worst evo I've ever been in!
Car is going into the shop now to get much stiffer rear springs, front LSD fitted and reflashing the ACD Ecu. Fingers crossed that makes the car driveable!

Yeah sorry about that, forgot to warn on the language. Was cursing at the thought of castration upon the girlfriend seeing the front bar in pieces. Thankfully though, no damage to report apart from a couple of minor scratches underneath the lip. Going in for an alignment and check of the front end and wheels for buckling.
As Sack said, yeah Ayrton is co-driving, seems to know a few people in the motorsport world. Think he is keen to get back out in the STi for the next round of sprints.
