View Full Version : Exhaust Fabrication Advice. Varex with a twist.....

Ok so I'm after some advice in regards to making / having someone make or modify my exhaust.
What I am after is some sort of a Y pipe after the cat, one of them being only 20cm and direct exit off the cat, the other connecting to a catback exhaust (which will obviously have to have the flange cut off and re-measured and welded back on).
My Goal for this Y pipe is similar to that of a Varex Muffler. I'm wanting to have some sort of a plate that blocks off each section of the Y pipe, which can be wired to a switch, Esentially allowing me to run a straight pipe exiting after the cat OR normal catback exhaust.
This is similar to the setup on the "Goldfinger" GTR.
If anyone has any experience or advice, im open to all ideas at this stage.
I did attempt to draw a diagram as my explanation is pretty vague, but scanner at work auto-scans to PDF format which i cant upload. :(
Car is r32 4 door.
Thanks,
Corey

I believe the gold finger GTR is currently sitting at Galvsport
I am sure josh could replicate what was done to Gold Finger onto your vehicle?

Quick time performance they make exactly what you are talking about.
Its called an electric exhaust cutout. In the old hot rod days they used to unbolt the header caps now we are so slack we can flick a switch.Although why you want it after the cat is beyond me.

Some makers also call it an exhaust bypass valve
Agree with comments re: after cat

Car has permits for EVERYTHING. Trying to avoid any fancy fabrication work on the dump/down pipe as it's a lot harder to replace compared to unbolting a catback and putting a stock one back on in the event i have to go over the pits.

Hard to say, depends on the car , turbo, current exhaust, tune etc
On a 250hp std car you might gain 5hp....on a 700hp car you might gain 50hp !
Freeing exhaust restriction is something that 90% of the time would require a touch up to the tune to either stop bad things or get some benefit.... especially on a turbo car.
Its also possible to go backwards ! I have had tunes done with open exhaust, no muffler straight thru etc ....if the pipe length isn't tuned right you can actually loose power or gain nothing over a full muffled exhaust even on 500+whp cars !

Making 600.
I'm not doing it for power gains, its more for things like track days, powercruise, RW, Antilag cruises etc.
Getting very sick of fitting my straight-through every time i want a bit more noise.
