Hey peoples
Well i've been offered a T28 that comes with an adaptor plate for the manifold for the 4G93. Consequently i'm looking at purchasing it to bolt onto my gsr lancer. The T28 is was purchased new and has done 15000k's. I am told it is similar to the ones off late s14/ early 15's.
I think anything is going to be a good upgrade over the standard td04 (tiny!), but how much better is it going to be and how bout compared to a td05 16g off an evo?
How good is this turbo too? I'm guessing it's of garretty goodness, but from what i've been told it's not ball bearing. How does a ball bearing turbo make a difference?
Umm can't think of anything more at the moment but if you think of anything to bring up then yeah...do so. Comes with everything to bolt up though....including water and oil lines, dump pipe. $500 is the price for it too, how does that sound?
Cheers

The T28 is Rollerbearing - comes stock on S14s and S15s and flows to 320HP @ Wheels i believe - does the $500 include the manifold? still a good price mate - not sure how much more power it can give over the TD04 tho....

Ball bearing generally means longer to spool up - but can handle more boost as the turbines are metal. The turbine in my S13 (T25G) is ceramic - meaning it comes onto boost fairly quickly, however can only really handle 1Bar....Im pretty sure the ballbearing ones can handle the intense heat and pressure on the manifold on which it sits etc...

theres no such thing as a rollerbearing turbo
they are either plain bearing or ball bearing
the t28 is rated to 320 crank hp not rwhp
the rear wheel on a t25g isnt ceramic

As stated the turbo comes with an adaptor plate to mount up the the gsr manifold....the setup actually came off a 1.8lt gsr. I just can't talk to the guy at the moment as he is not in the country but i selling it through someone else.
So for the $500 it comes with:
T28 turbo
Adaptor plate
water and oil lines
dump pipe
intercooler pipe from turbo
And from what i've been told it's just a plain bearing turbo, i'm going to see if i can take a look at it on the weekend. Just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas or advice on this setup and if it's worth it.

what? ball bearing turbos spool up quicker actually, and yes they can handle more boost as long as the exhaust wheel is not ceramic. Just so you know, you can get ceramic ball bearing turbos (eg rb20, 25 t3's etc)
Skanky: Your t28 your buying will be fine on the 4g93 even though its plain bearing, and for $500 its a good price, go for it and you wont regret!
Edit: Also its more like 320HP at engine not wheels...
just be careful as rods in gsr's aren't the strongest so save for them too if youre planning to go a bit faster...

And make sure its a real T28 you are getting and not a T25

Thanks guys, answered some of my questions. Probably going to have a look at it this weekend, but more then likley i'm going to be getting it. Might get the turbo checked out first though.
Just have to save up the money for the rest of the exhaust then!! How much you reckon 3" from the dump pipe back with highflow cat and 3" muffler would cost? I was quoted $1200 not so long ago but that included the dump pipe.

The cost lies in the cat converter and mufflers...
I recently organised one for my GF's RX7, 3" highflow cat and two 3" polished barrels and got an exhaust shop to do the piping and they charged $500 for the piping (dual cat back too). So it was under $1K all up. Got quoted $1200-1500 for the whole system ordinarily.

Yeah... 3" cat is going to cost you around $300 on its own.
