View Full Version : Broaching new hubs for larger spline shafts.
I have hit my first major hurdle in my driveline conversion and rather than pay large amounts of money to convert to 5 studs RX7 hubs I wanted to first explore the option of having the standard MX5 hubs Broached to suit the RX7 spline and diameter.
Who in Perth can do it and has anyone have any experience with it?
Supercruise 3 is just around the corner and I want to get this done so that I can get off the brake and on 3rd...

Any reason you can't change wheel stud PCD?
It will be much cheaper than cutting new splines.

Yep Overload can do it.
Thanks guys!
I would have to buy 4 RX7 hubs and machine them down to fit into the mx5 spindle. Then redrill (machine time) all of the rotors and replace all of my wheels. If machining the spline or broaching the hub is cheaper than this option then it would make sense.
If I can have the axles cut down to the mx5 size or the mx5 spindle increased to suit the rx7 axles then it would be my first choice. Yes I know it can weaken the axle/hub but these only become a problem once running wide slicks etc.

Can you not machine down the Rx7 cv to fit the mx5 hub?
That is how I fitted stronger cv to my racecar
I've not seen or read about this technique before. I had seen some people refer to having custom hybrid shafts but not spinning down the cv..will explore this further.

Yep machined the cv to take the Nissan micra wheel bearing seal on the back of the upright/hub
All done on a mates lathe
