Importing a car - When to purchase insurance?

When you are importing a car through a broker in Japan. When is the correct time to organise insurance (ie the insurance will cover the car)?

Is it best to insured the car when it arrives on the docks in Perth? Or is it best to arrange once it has been picked up from the compliance workshop?

I usually start inurance the instance I go to pick-up the vehicle as it's then in my care/ownership.

if i could get it i would get it as soon as possible. Doubt Shannons would offer it whilst at the docks, but just cars might?

If something happens to the vehicle before its in your possessions which is not the fault of the person in control of it, you will find it very hard to get any insurance paid out... Depends what deal you have with your importer broker too. But i would always prefer to have my own insurance.
