I used to work for Malz when I was studying. They always had a good range of general servicing parts but it was nothing like the old Marlows was before supershit bought them out (same owners afaik)

Cash flow is king

Order mega loads of stock

Sits around

Trouble.

Always going to get undercut by the Big 3 - Supercheap, Repco, Autopro

I use them for most of my stuff when I plan ahead, they usualy have what I need when I go in.
When I need something ASAP, I have to go to at least 2 or 3 of the local stores (Armadale auto parts, Repco, Auto1, Autopro, Cov's & Veale's) Such a pain in the arse.

Previous company I worked at used to be a supplier to them, were horrible payers and very similiar to the ways strathfield used to play the game. I.e order as much as they can til they get on credit hold, and move to another supplier temporarily that they don't have a debt with, try and sell there stuff to pay another ones debt etc etc.

I always thought the guy that owned Malz, was the guy that started supercheap and was banned from re-creating a store that sells similar products for some time.. then Malz came along..

Or was I being told bullshit from the get go? haha

No, he owned Marlows.

When SC bought out Marlows, they didnt include a non competition clause - so they launched Malz literally immediately after.

no, Owner of Marlows started Malz, when he sold to Supercheap there was a clause that he wasnt allowed to open another auto parts business (possibly for 1 year), this was the main drive of Malz being "an automotive & lifestyle" shop

was working for marlows at the time of sale

just went to malz in balcatta to use a gift card and the "power was out", so couldnt use them.

wonder if the power was actually out or they just dont want people cashing in?

I've been there a few times and the power has been out. So possibly a real thing.

Heh, I am still amazed at the shit they sell. Where else can you walk in on a Sunday afternoon and get a new door handle/mirror/etc for your XF Falcon?

I doubt they will close - business is actually profitable if someone takes the 30% of waste out.

I'm surprised this never happen sooner.

The store at Jandakot is always dead.

I think Anthony Scali used to work for Marlows balcatta back in the day.

We were supplying them and they were terrible. Last few months they have been on COD cos their payments were that bad

This was probably half the problem, open on Sunday afternoons trying to sell shit that hardly anybody wants.

Never really shopped there as I want trade discount but new that had unusual stuff that repco/supercheap never stock. Needed a metal bender for some panel work, rang them, had stock and purchased on a sunday, chicken dinner

Added to the bicycles, tents, log splitters, etc.

Bit like Borders, the book shop trying to sell BBQs and outdoor furniture.

Malz are having a stock clearance at the moment, min 30% off storewide until tomorrow.

Good chance to pick up tools, oil and Waeco fridges which rarely go on sale.
