Ok, having a debate at work about this and I've searched a bit online about it and we are still a bit unsure.
As far as I'm away if you have your R-E class and get caught riding a bike classified to R class you get a $100 fine & no demerits. Now I've also been told that its classed as riding without a license and you will be fined as so. Suspensions & court appearance and possible impound.
If you don't have a license at all what are the penalties for riding?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Riding/Driving out of class is classed as driving without a licensing AFAIK.
That equals impounding of vehicle, court appearance and license suspension.
the never ending argument, go do it and provide feedback on the size of the pinapple you get....

you get a yellow for riding out of class?
size of pineapple = how hard you get it in the ass with no lube from the coppers.

roger!
have read conflicting stories on PSB....some say, impound...some say, 100 clams....others say, verbal warning
i just hope they don't look my bike up should i be pulled over before test in march...636 in capacity but not on LAMS list
seems to be dependent on the cops mood/knowledge/your attitude at the time you are pulled over..
More importantly though, you are probably not covered by either your own insurance or the 3rd party rego insurance... that could hurt a little.

i've been done twice, both times riding out of class - $100/$150 no points.
depending on your/the cops attitude and or how good the story was you spun (mine was fucking amazing), they may try and do you for no license, in which case you'll lose the bike and end up in court. However, now this is unconfirmed, i feel confident if you took it to court, a good lawyer could argue successfully that the R/RE is merely a CLASS added to your existing license, which you have. Therefore the appropriate charge is riding out of class. Just like you can get done for reckless or excessive noise in a car, its up to the cops discretion.
either way, play at your own risk
edit: to add salt to the wound, i didnt even have an RE, i was still on my learners, first time on a k7 gsxr600 and second on a k9 cbr1000rr

cheers for that guys,
seems to be no confirmed answer as depends on the cops and yourself at the time of the infringement!

As mentioned above, go try it out and provide feedback.
Would think the biggest issue is that you have no insurance!!!!!!

A mate of mine got pulled up no licence on a 250 got the usual no licence, bike impounded, suspension...
Have not known anyone to be done for out of class personally.
The new registered Lams list as made it hard for people to pull the wool over the police' eyes unfortunately.

I got $100 bucks no demerit and left the bike on side of road. Good cop and was quite ok with my reasons.
Call up a mate to pick me up, he then ride the bike home and i drive his car.
Ps. He has open licence
