I am looking at a conversion for My Callaway...The 4+3 Doug Nash Gearbox's O/D system isnt working, and will cost an arm and a leg to repair, and once done, its still technically only a 4 speed gearbox....Old School !

I can get a complete 5 Speed conversion kit from the States with the Tremec box, but obviously freight will cost a bomb, so it might be worthwhile buying the Box here, and getting the rest of the Conversion components shipped over.

The only problem I see, is that it appears that the Tremec has also had some minor mods to assist in fitment to my vehicle (shifter relocated etc)...I doubt I will be able to get a Box here with those mods already done.

I would like to hear from anyone whos had experience with Corvettes, 4+3's or Tremecs...

Cheers

Buy from summit and use a freight forwarder to ship it over?

I'd be surprised if landed cost here wasn't less than local supply

otherwise:

Im sure Mal's fitted one to a corvette so he would be able to assit you.

Malwoodauto for the win!! Had 2 friend deal with them on their tko 600 boxes and said they were great to deal with. Mal also do the face plated gears ect if you want that done. But the best part about dealing with Mal's is that they are Australian so after sale support is easy!! Give the guys a call, tell them about your car ect and they will give you their opinion on what will be best for you and your needs.

Tell Mal that I sent you (Carl with ed falcon)

LILREGIE on this site has broken one leaning on third gear but he has lots of torque.

Make sure you get mal to fit a plate to stop the input shaft walking(under lots of torque and 3rd gear drops is what killed regies), also get carbon blocker rings and a mal wood shifter to finish it off, as this will make it shift alot better.. (they are pretty crap shifting boxes). Ive had two TKO's one standard and the other with those mods and they are like chalk and cheese. Sometimes with my first box I would try to down change from 3rd to 2nd and It was very tricky. Plenty of people have had shifting issues on std boxes. I have recently upgraded to a t56 and I reckon you should look into that option a bit more.

I wouldn't use face plated gears unless its a pure race car!
