In conjunction with WA Performance we're pleased to announce the first of our pre Racewars events. Much like the Antilag Dyno day a few years back we'll be running around 40 cars through across the day. It's a great opportunity to see who can torque the torque and size up some of the competition for the main event.

We'll also be launching the volunteer sign ups at the dyno day as well.

In short it will be a great day for all involved and I hope to see a good turnout from the Antilag crew.

Well, you've got your Civic. Jap type R B18C goes around 200 HP (flywheel HP) stock and say 220 or so with some cams and breathing tweaks, yeah? So well over 100 hp/l. But you're reving it to 8.5k to get that.

Getting that power out of a pushrod V8 - is also easy, been done many times, all you need is money. Lots of it. A lot more than I spent on my motor! Buy a V8 supercar motor and get near on 650 HP out of 5L at only 7.5k. Or Nascar motor or sprintcar motor or whatever... But many very diligent people spent a lot of time and money over the years to get them to that stage.

So yeah, stick with the B18C and win thanks to the good people at Honda.

SAJ, TreCool and I know what it costs to pull hp from Ls motors, and it hurts quickly

500 plus hp atw is probably near 600 true fwhp but it costs bulk $$$ and isn't the friendliest on the road.

The M3 I sat in the other day was 625hp at the flywheel. Didnt even know it at idle. Actually didn't even know it until you actually opened the throttle fully. At that point I shat. 4.0lt. Ok it had blower on it.

1. I couldn't see the speedo but felt 4 aggressive gear changes
2. I thought we were going to roll at the speed we took the corner
3. I didnt think the car would pull up.
4. I don't even know if it was fast, it just felt fast.
5 The car has entered Racewars so keen to see ot in real world.

lol yes i was talking n/a, easy to make power with boost.
That said later model stuff with VVT/VVL, direct injection etc is much easier to make power out of and keep it livable.

Had major issues strapping it down and getting an accurate reading (ESP going off etc), gathered that they hadn't run many FWD's on their dyno before. Friend mentioned that the bloke there he was going to get in touch with you Tristan, so that they are better prepared for next weekend, as I know there are a couple of FWD's confirmed.

For those with FWD's, might be worth taking off the belly plates etc to get better access for straps under the front end. May also be worth knowing what fuses to pull if the ESP/ESC plays up.

Took the VF Ute to Motorplex last night - Managed to pull a 11.7 with a few traction problems

Nice. What was the speed through the traps? Should be close to 200 k's I'd guess. Went to look at Fuelers and Doorslammers on Sunday night - so the track was well prepped. Still grippy on Wed night? Would have been the night to go for sure.

In fairness, Royce's car has run 138mph, so it's fast, and considering it only did about 560whp on WA Perf's Dyno I'd say the dyno is pretty conservative.

Either way, it was awesome to see a group of cars from all different workshops compared on the same dyno!

I had to play with the tune on the red ve this morning to fix fuel mixtures after it had a couple of tanks of p100 and switched it back to ethanol.
With a couple of hours temp difference and different atmospherics. Power was with 10hp from mine.
When the cars are strapped and ran at the same ramp rate correctly. This is what u get!

At a guess if you overlay your power graph on a stock power graph, you would notice a shed load more mid range "meat".
At the end of the day, a dyno figure is just a reference number.

For reference, my car pulled 2.5hp less then it did on the Dyno Dynamics dyno it was tuned on, 7hp less than Active's Dyno Dynamics, and 15hp more than the lowest dyno run it's done (which was a stinking hot day on BYE's Mainline). That low number is also on par with a heat soaked run during tuning. 4 dynos with highly comparable runs seems pretty spot on to me.

I was personally expecting a 280hp figure with the roller. So as some could probably tell I was pretty happy spitting out the almosttreefiddy power figure. End of the day roller vs hub will always be different, people need to just accept that. There are so many variables to consider.

As buckets has already said, anyone doubting the accuracy of this dyno is off with the fairies. It reads bang on hp figures for all cars I know that have been on it & then had runs at the plex, without fail.
My Calais makes 433hp NA every time it's strapped on (due to the exact same strapping technique used ach & every time on all cars there) and runs high 10's at 122mph full weight. Every single credible drag converter I have used has spat out these exact figures based on my specs & converter slip values, along with countless other cars owned by WA Perf customers.

Was an awesome day and I just wish my bottle warmer hadn't failed so I could've cracked the mid 500 mark like I did during tuning through the week. Mph figures I. The coming weeks will just have to do!

Surely not having a fresh supply of air being forced into the front wouldn't be helping at all

Air flow wasn't an issue as the cell is t fully enclosed yet.

Not speaking so much as a heat issue I'm talking from a flow perspective. Will a rwd car read differently with and without a fan present? I remember at powercruise the last time there was a dyno present. Most cars didn't have a fan used and we're reading lower than expected.

I'm not a dyno expert here and personally I hate the things, wish I didn't have to use them, just asking questions.

well my runs overlapped each other apart from the top end on the 2nd run where the belt didn't slip, and PD blowers heatsoak like a MOFO.

However I installed a 12" fan on the intercooler of my brothers car over 12 months ago so even when it's idling it get's a fair bit of airflow. (struggles to get over 87c on the freeway)

I used the large dyno fan on my dyno the morning I retuned my brothers car. it was within 10hp of mitch's.

If I feel like it, i'll print out the reading from mine and show them together. AT & IT will be different, but the way shootout mode works is should be reasonable close across dyno's and varied weather conditions.

I'll also admit I don't go to the same length as mitch did with the hipo cars, I put the chocks in front of the wheels and put 2 straps around the rear subframe.

Was there an intake air temp sensor put under the bonnet of cars? (i didnt see but wasnt really watching)
The turbo FWD's all generally run pretty small turbo's spinning hard and hence rely on intercoolers pretty heavily.

On the FWD NA point, given the 2x cars that ran almost exactly the same power (Me and Miggy) - based on flywheel figures equated to about 35% drivetrain loss - given both make 200hp @ the flywheel standard.
Personally, i realised i hadnt adjusted my tire pressures since the track on monday, only running about 30psi which may have skewed my reading a little.

In the end I dont really care, dyno's are a tuning tool and just always interesting to see how cars compare to each other :)

My dad was impressed with the car you brought. Massive power, hardly any noise compared to the others.

On that note thanks to everyone who spoke to him. You can't imagine how out of his element he was and he came away with a great impression of "shannon's car friends"

It's a daily for the weekends

Cheers for letting me know. The reason I asked is that old mate with a Focus ST wanted some dyno tuning at MCE Motorsport and they weren't able to move the high volume fan to the other side for FWD. After two runs the thing was getting hot and dropping power.

but there were other dedicated drags cars last year running legit tyres and having to deal with not being just able to mash the loud pedal at the start.

IIsnt that the appeal of the longer races and the rollons?, that is isn't so much about the launch like a 400m?

the headliner 1000m is a totally different kettle where aero comes into it as well ( check out the vid of a GTR doing a mile race in Russia and how they have taped up all the gaps in the bodywork so that they don't get air going where they don't want at high speed.).....
