View Full Version : Removing scratches from stainless steel?
Hey All
Our fridge has a few battle scars which are currently covered up by fridge magnets but we're wondering if it's possible to clean up surface scratches in the stainless finish?
EDIT - This Fridge:

Know of any products or companies that specialise in this? Being a fridge I'd prefer someone to come out if so.
Cheers

I don't know how bad your scratch is, but I got "About 541,000 results (0.26 seconds)" using google.
Here are the top 3, and a bonus video, for your convenience;

[I]ahhhhhh the internet.
Yes, I got those too. I'm quite versed at the Internet.
I am more concerned with making it worse so hence why I was perhaps looking for a company that specialises locally.
Thanks for being ever so helpful though, It is appreciated.

Last time I checked magnets don't stick to stainless steel. Might wanna find out what the steel is prior doing wrong treatment.

I think it does if the stainless is lower than 316 grade

How deep are the scratches? Swirl mark on car spec? Or greater than half a mn?
Is the fridge a "finger print proof" one? If so, it means the stainless is clear coated.
If thats the case, you can't polish it at all.

I had 316 splash backs and they didnt stick either.
Just asked a boat builder mate with stainless. 304 less will stick. Cheap steel and will get surface rust.
Also some stainless when heated, dented etc changes it properties and will lose/ become magnetic. A whole new science. ...:)
