I'd like to see the number of cars that aren't your typical falcodore or Camry. Judging by that article, anyone who speeds is a hoon, including the soccer mum late to dropping the kids off.

If they released the actual models of cars caught with hoon offences, I reckon it would change the context in which the word "hoon" is used

15k drink drivers this year

1800 'hoons', including people driving unlicenced (probably 80%)

gee wonder which is the bigger issue?

Too right SACK, what I hate is the word HOON just thrown at anything and anyone ........... burns my piss more than a case of the clap! ........ I am all for the safe back streets of neighbour hoods of following the speed limit, but on the freeway at 2 in the morning??? I personally see nothing wrong with it, but alas it is frowned apon.

Patrol gets broken into ... cops dont turn up, I tell the chick on the phone that I will be out the front on the brake in third and the cops will be bashing my door down before the car is even turned off, didnt help my cause, she didnt sound impressed, I was a little emotional after the patrol got broken into.

Correct me if i am wrong but it is easy for the fucktards to call everyone hoons and get the strike rate up and "appear" to be making the community safe, easy targets thats why, throw in "dob in a hoon" and all the old farts and blue rinse group bingo players with nothing better to do than watch "hoons drive past their house, go running for the phone cause they just wintnessed a modified car go past with an exhaust and that constiutes a hoon.

Ending rant now :/

You're probably right on the money there. It's much easier for the police, and all other parties involved with it etc. etc., to just label everyone as hoons because that's what the majority of the population think. Rather than actually try to educate the public, and make a definition as to what constitutes a "hoon".

And people complain that they don't have any influence over what the police do..

If you think about it, people need something else to complain about. The general populace and the media need something that affects old people/family more.

Usual media beat up fueled by WAPOL.
What they don't tell you is that of those ~300 cars caught speeding in 2 days, I would estimate 85% or more of the fines would have been for between 0-9km's over.
How can you include them in a "HOON" story?

volt_bite
24-12-2013, 10:11 AM
Yep, same old media bullshit. No one wants to hear or see facts, they just want to hear what they want to hear.

Lets all jump on the bandwagon and blame hoons for all our 1st world problems.

This.

Though they might have had the right intention to setup a camera at the same spot on Marion Ave for 3 days in a row, there is no doubt they had intentions of providing the results to feed the media.

if they wanted you to slow down and save lives they'd tell you where the cameras are.. just saying. also if you are knowingly speeding and/or breaking the laws you deserve a fine, simple.

Was so tempted to hit send lol, after few beers and youtube videos I wanted to send this to the Perth Now editor but decided not to.

(Alcohol fulled rant, my apologies)

Hi Team

I have noticed alot of up roar and stories coming out about the label "hoon" it seems the media has now placed car and motorsport enthusiasts amongst common criminals and general public idiots. You cant take a story of a stolen Skyline driving on the wrong side of the road and make the general public believe the idiot was street racing or what ever you want to call it, he or she that stole that car was a simple criminal, how about the poor fella that lost his car to that idiot? Is he know classified as a hoon because his car was stolen, I also remember a article of 4 idiots in a busted up VN commadore causing havoc at a petrol station been branded as "hoons" once again NO! they are not enthusiasts, they are just your common criminal idiots, but because of all the incorrect media branding actual car enthusiast who build there cars and spend fortunes of money are amongst these criminals. No one who buys a $20k + car and spends a further amount of money on it is going to go do burn outs on the public road, I wonder if the media understands how much the cost of a Toyo street legal semi-slick is? They are not cheap so we are not going to take our $400 each tyers and go tear up Perth streets, here is a suggestion why dont you guys actually do a story on actual enthusiasts, why dont you cover the stories of good people like Adrian Lee [4MYSON] who died of cancer but loved been an enthusiast is he is labeled as a Hoon? We are not all hoons, we are not killing people on the roads and we are not responsible for parents keeping there kids from playing outside, there are more people getting injured or bashed on Perth streets from drunken morons and drink drivers then any car accident in Perth involving a modified car, how convenient to take a accident caused by a taxi which then damaged a genuine car enthusiasts car who by the way was following all the traffic laws and then brand that person as a hoon. The media really needs to stop this and do a genuine story on car enthusiasts, why dont you spend a day were we take our expensive cars out in a legal controlled motorsport event, stop filming the idiots abusing police because they are just that IDIOTS not car enthusiasts. For the sake of us all not having to put up with people writing down our number plates when pulling into our driveways and shopping centers, for people to stop making false claims of hooning when we meet up in a public area to express our passion for cars with simple conversation NOT Tokyo drift or a scene from fast and furious.

Regards

A local Car enthusiast

There were 2 cameras north and south bound for 3 days I'd say 100 is an extremely low number compared to the traffic that goes past that area.

I've been thinking for a while about cameras there is no way they are making money like they used to, people are living in fear of speeding myself included I'd say 10% of my driving I actually have the option to exceed the speed limit because most of the time I'm stuck behind cars and I roughly do about 450km a week.

If people were educated and we had more realistic laws I bet there would be no need to widen the freeway most traffic is caused by bad driving.

most traffic is caused by bad driving.
Agreed! If people left room to slow down a bit by just lifting off the throttle instead of braking there would certainly be less panic braking which has a snowball effect going back kilometers...... But that's off the topic.

I believe some of this is caused by auto cars not engine braking much. When I was commuting from southern river to Ossi park in my patrol I would challenge myself to not use the brakes the whole trip just by leaving space and lifting off throttle. Of course using brakes if needed. In my auto FG ute I can do this I lift off and the car keeps going same speed I need to tap the brakes and it annoys me cos I know the follow on effect it has
