3.0 Hilux surf

any opinions on these?

always been a fan of the surf, the look of them anyway. Mate had a v6 that blew up within a week, other mates got a 2.4 that leaks so much oil the US want to invade it and its slower than a stoned sped.

but are the 3.0TD much better?

not a bad rig.everything of a solid axle lux fits them. they still are no speed demon but with regular maintenance and care they are a decent bus. cooling system needs to be checked reguarily to stop over heating though.

common to warp heads on these when overheated. boost controller would be good, a decent intercooler setup aswell,turbo timer,2.5'' exhuast aswell. check cvs for free play from having torsions wound up to far. if you can find one thats had a 1uz fe conversion,that would be the go. jump on perth4x4.net and ask on there, quiet a few 3.0 surf owners on there.

yeah but people want crack money for the uz conversions. would love one though.

That's because the guy that does the conversion asks crack money for it. When I checked, $17k. Who the fuck pays $17k for that conversion.

Surf may be easier to sell, but what price? The ones on Gumtree above $6k seem to stay there forever.

As said above.. as long as the radiator has been fixed/replaced, over heating isn't an issue.

Only problem i had with mine, was after getting it stuck in a mud hole in Harvey, I would randomly loose overdrive, making it a 3 speed. Ended up being some fried bits in the ECU, fixxed dogily with some hookup wire.

Would honestly get another one if I could find a decent Manual Example if I wanted to get back into a 4by
