View Full Version : Invoicing program options

Hey,

The time has come where I actually need a better program for issuing invoices (currently using XL spreadsheets and entering everything manually which is a huge pain in the arse).

What does everyone else use? Have been told MYOB but that it isn't the best option/all that good. What else is there?

I wouldn't mind an option that lets me add stock (and bills it out when I need too) and what each item costs so I can keep track of what goes where and at what price and offering discounts on slower moving stock.

I do want to avoid licence fees for programs, like SAP, Di, Aurora, Pronto, etc. Would like to own the program, ideally.

Have no budget at this stage, just need options.

Thanks.

Xzero (spel?) seems to be popular and a very versatile system.

Tried looking before hand, hate it when others don't search before posting.

That Xero thing is licence only? No actual owning of program?

Bizwiz is a program written by a guy in Kalamunda and it is the most basic easy to understand program I have used for running my business
Fine for invoicing and doing your BAS if that is all you need to do

Xero ftw.

It's cloud accounting. You don't own a physical copy of the program as its online based, but it's yours to use for as long as you pay the monthly fee.

For me it was an absolute no brainer, especially as I use it for payroll as well as bookkeeping and invoicing functions. This is because it was a helluva lot cheaper than buying MYOB, then having to pay a stupid amount of money each year for the updated tax tables. Xero updates the tax tables yearly and you pay no extra.

Handy Quote 3.3 is free and not time bombed. (No iPhone/iPad App)

Invoice2GO is not free but very good.

There is also ServiceM8, also not free but looks the goods.

licence's are the way of the future, especially for any small to medium business. There is a really good reason more than one person has recommended Xero, it really is that good.

Even the most basic MYOB only includes a 6 month subscription.

For something really basic, that BizzWizz looks useable - http://www.bizwiz.com.au/ but being their website doesn't work properly, I'd have my reservations.

Like I said, it is very basic
If you have a issue you call the support number and you get the program writer who is also a accountant

There's more to Xero than just a great platform. They've just raised another $150m in VC funding, and released an app for reconciling on the run.

Installers are a thing of the past. The conversion rates from programs like MYOB are staggering. Cloud computing should always be a priority over something that sits on your PC.

Antilag Motorsport uses Xero. The Racewars Group uses Xero. I use Xero for my business as well.

You can sign up at Xero.com for a trial. See if you like it, then contact Dylan at DC & Associates for more info if you require it.

that's for their online program though. you can buy MYOB outright without having their cloud services. (justinvoices/accountright basics)

$30/month for xero is no point for me when i can pay $300 outright for myob that does my invoicing and BAS, which is all I need as a sole trader. or even less if you dont want BAS reports.

I am using Xero and its good. But probably a bit much considering the size of our business. We pay $59/month.

I guess you have to look at what you need and go from there. MYOB/Quickbooks are pretty good stand alone systems but as everyone said you need to update them. But its a once off fee =/

There are a lot of third party provided programs/apps that come off the shelf with integration for Xero. You would be silly not to go with Xero to be honest, it's incredibly impressive.

Looking at a accounting software to manage a small civil / building company
Raising purchase orders
Invoicing
Payroll
Tracking costs for financial forecasting
Easily modified by programmers to make customised reporting and external database input etc

Have used JDE, timberline and the like in the past and they seem a bit cumbersome / not lean enough for how I want to run things in a smaller operation. Anyone in the industry have any other recommendations? I have mainly worked for $500m+ a year companies so no idea what the smaller ones use

Quickbooks or MYOB are your standard issue accounting software programs that can do that.

Can Xero do it? There might be modules available.. Talk to DFC and then accounting can be reconciled directly, saves time, saves monies.

Wonder if you've looked at Triumph Business Systems. They're a small WA based company that does accounting software. They distribute through a dealer network though.

They utilize crystal reports for customized reporting and is module based depending on your needs.

Can recommend a good dealer as well if you so desire.

I'm not sure what your external data needs are, but connecting Xero to another online tool like http://www.fathomhq.com/ has been eye opening on a reporting level. Gives useful, visual info that can assist with decision making.

Speaking from an IT support point of view, I hate MYOB, Quickbooks is better. Older MYOB was obviously from the Windows 98 days (slow, crappy interface, annoying to migrate data to new PCs) and the new version is a fuckoff with it's overly complex library system. No idea on using it day to day, just had to install it a couple of times.

Have not been exposed to anything else. Cloud solutions are certainly the way things are headed but I'm still wary of not being able to access data when the net is down/slow or their servers are slow. Our help desk system at work is cloud based and the cumulative productivity loss from waiting for things to load when you click them is probably an hour a week down the drain. New version promises twice the speed and half the RAM usage, but they always say that...

Oh, forgot to mention that Triumph has an option to be cloud-based as well.
