Well maybe not but to be out in 4.5 swell all night zig zaging a really deep part off the back of Rotto by a military ship makes you wonder what they are looking for... .

Why couldnt they do it during the day light in better conditions ;)

Here is the website......

I recon there is something good out in that location. Water depth there would be 500meters i would think

Wow what a blast from the past (for me).

My first job 14 years ago was a labourer for a mobile sandblasting mob, i was 15 at the time. We worked out at garden island for 2 weeks sandblasting and repainting the main deck of the Seahorse Standard. Was such a shit job, especially climbing the ladder with a 40kg bag of garnet to fill the hopper to do touch ups.

Also cleaning up the used garnet was shit. fill a wheelie bin a third full and when the crane came to lift it up, the arse fell out of it. Was a real FML moment, i knew that i had too much brains to do that shit for a living...

Rottnest trench is a submarine training area. More than likely a support vessel for those operations or torpedo recovery etc as mentioned.

Sorry to burst your bubble Ninja,
The Sea-Horse standard is a Government owned ship that gets hired out for Many different offshore testing scenarios.
Earlier this year I was working with a client that hired it so that they could Depth test there ROV frames. I also have a job booked with another client later this year that will be using it to test ROV launching frames from the back of it.

navy uses it for heaps of different things. we used to send our boarding party onto it to test boardings. its also used for force protection for training for ships going to the gulf. youd be suprised how many exercised the navy do in cockburn sound and out the back of rotto.

Here's an intercepted photo from the ship's transmissions back to Garden Island last night, you might have to squint a bit to make it out.
