is a ricer only a ricer if they put "shiney things and big wings" on jap cars?
My mate has an Accent, which he loves. It has a craaazy system, rims, kit, clear tail lights, suss and enough neons to land a jumbo. Im trying to make him get stick on vents and some graphics too. (coz i think its funny as hell). The thing is he copps sh*t from trevs (and general public) and ricers because his car's Korean, lol.
I dont really care, but any opinions?

I think a ricer is someone who modifies a car with an obvious lack of attention to any sort of performance upgrades

ie non of that shit makes the car go, turn or stop any better, except for maybe the rims since they allow more tread to be in contact with the road. however i highly doubt thats why he purchased them.

Ricers generally do up shit cars ie cheap ones with alot of crap on them to try to make them forget how crap the car really is..

There is nothing with having a nice looking car , but when its so over the top its not funny then its a ricer

I think its just wierd how the Honda boys make fun of his aswell because his car is not Jap.

Hes getting more performance minded now, hes been dead set on getting a turbo kit in from the states for some time. Seems going for a ride in my mates 2J MZ20 Soarer has opened his eyes. lol.

Hmm I know the type.
Not interested in power adding modifications really, but 'looking good' - would spend money on bodykits, shiny loud muffler, neons, interior gadgets, etc etc.

Im not a fan of that sort of stuff myself, but whatever floats your boat :)

Pretty much any car where more money has been spent on looks rather than performance, unless they are actually useful looks that have a purpose -- eg. carbonfibre stuff is ok, as long as you are into motorsport.

I think a points scale should be concocted; different visual or performance mods are worth certain points (positive for visual, negative for performance). Anyone over a certain number is a ricer :) Then again, it'd be open for dispute -- wheels aren't neccessarily rice, as they can improve grip if used with decent rubber and if they are also light. Or maybe I'm just blabbing on...

i like that gear boot. i want one for mine. Except for that the cars poo. hehe.
I like TJ's defination, it drives me up the wall when every know nothing poonce calls jap turbo cars rice burners! How can they possibly be considered rice when they are obviousley foccused on performance and will chop most pushrod boats off the showroom floor. Anyway it is an age old debate which will never be resolved. so lets all resort to giving v8s shit for their mullets, thongs and slow cars, and they can give us shit for being ricers

Josh ;)

saw a SV21 camry the other day on riverside drive. all it had was a drift style muffler and a 'caution: frequently sideways' sticker on the rear window.

and he kept trying to give it a little bit of stick when he saw me.

hahahaha fools.

lol, v8? can't give em that much credit.

love those auto 3.8 vn's with shift lights etc. and the good ole bonnet scoop.

actually, the weirdest 'rice' mod i saw was a bunky old vn/p calais, and he stuck a calais badge on his dashboard (passenger side) and cut out the dash mat so u could see the badge. 9/10 points for dodgyness!

Yep, I've used that term too, but some of the trevs think it's ok for a V6 to have stickers and SS badges, but not for a jap car to have a mild bodykit and an exhaust.

I cant say all that much as my car is more show than go (most prob rice).... buuuutt....
If a car has go, it can still be a ricer!!!
I have seen alot of s13's 180's etc that run around with bad looking kits, REALLY bad wings and neons and the works etc and just plain look like shit.

1 example was at drag combat IMO = ( purple sil80, gay wing, purple rims etc )

If you have a lancer that has neons, gauges, big rims, rear wing, graffix, bodykit etc.is it rice????? Then if the thing does a 11sec pass....is it still rice???
same with the top S15 D1 car...has graffix, kit, huge wing, huge TRI-spoke rims, wheel neons, huge gauges, neons.... but cause its a drifter its not rice???

Soooooo therefore rice = a car with slow/non turbo motor????!!!!!!!

rice isnt nessacerily the car. Its descriptive of the things ppl put on the car. What u have to understand is that the perfomance outweighs the rice factor in the HKS d1 car, therefore it cannot be classified as rice. It has elements of 'rice' however it is not a rice car.

The gauges, amazingly enough, DO actually have a function. Funny that.

i wasnt making a shitfight statement mearly a question :dizzy:

sprinta - nice!! :flipa:

D1 - hence the point i was making...if its got the speed or power, then it can have all the ricey shit but not be classed as rice. In regards to the gauges, im aware they have a purpose on the d1 man, that aint a hard thing to grasp. Same as a few cars ( not all i know ) usually have the gauges serving a purpose on ricers........but yeah i know what your saying.

Its just one of those things that goes on and on and on................
