Sup pingpingpingpings,
Righto, brother and I have finally decided to invest in a hoist for our workshop. Had a look around on the internet and have found lots of Chinese ones for cheap.
Originally we were going to buy a Molnar brand one but they're now around 6k however AFAIK they are top quality.
Before committing to this, who's got their own hoist, what brand is it, and what do you recommend?
the only prerequisites are:
Must be 2 poster with bar over head
can be either single or 3 phase as workshop has both
prob looking at around 3 tonne plus rated
thanks
John

This is relevant to my interests, except I'm keen on a two poster with floor crossover due to limited headroom.
Mate who ran a fixit shop used statewide hoists. You could always call them and see if they have any second hand Molnars as shops are always upgrading.

my gf's dad just got a second hand hoist installed. I can't remember where he bought it from but it was a 4 poster so price wouldn't be the best comparison for you. I can find out where from if you're interested though.
Anyway, my main point was that he already had 3-phase at the workshop like you but when they delivered the hoist they found it was a 4 plug unit and needed the 5 plug. Cost another $800 to get the sparky in while he was installing it to re-do it. Might be worth checking before ordering a 3-phase.

Check out advance autoquip.
They do a few clear floor 2 posters.
Used them at autoclassic and was what I was going to get when I had the shed.

There are always brand new worksfe approved ones in the weekend paper for circa $2500.

Molnar baseless 3tonne is the go , I feel safe working underneath it , in the process of getting a new Molnar 4 poster so I will have my old 4 post with scissor lift Bishaman for sale .

I use the Molnar 3t 2 post as well. It lifts my L/cruiser with ease.
Previously I've used Bendpack in my workshops, as well as the cheaper Chinese ones... Personally I would never buy another Chinese one. We went through a few hydraulic pumps on my last one.
If you plan on using it often or using it to store a car for long periods of time, fork out a bit extra for the Molnar.

^ How do you find the suspension on your car goes if it is stored for long periods of time on a 2-poster?
Myself and the old man are also looking at setting up a proper workshop in his shed - my preference is for a 2-poster (easier to work on suspension/wheels?), his is for a 4-poster (he has cars to store...).

Ratchet strap the suspension to desire height. Easy fix. 4 post suck for most repairs. Im sure there is already a thread on hoists. Recently on one of AL garage threads.

how about inground lifts? ive seen a few of them, and when not in use gives you back the floor space if need be.

Statewide installed my hoist... I do not recommend them at all!!! Arrogant cockheads out for a quick buck. Rang them to get them back and realign the lifts, was told that I didn't pay them enough to come out twice and I would have to sort it myself.
Fucking tossers!!!

Tecalemit ftw. Electric screw type shits all over hydraulic hoists, can position it exactly where you want and no messing about having to lock it on the safety catches.

Anyone have or know someone that has one like this or similar?
http://www.aaq.net.au/shop/detail/autolift-167212e/
Considering it for my shed as limited space for full hoist.
Interested to know about mounting it to the floor. And how thick the pad would need to be. I'm pressuming they use like a bolt anchor and you screw the hoist post into the bolt anchor that stays in the pad???
Anyone have experience with an inground scissor lift like this one?

Just as a wrap up for my original thread, I ended up getting a molnar premium two poster hoist with over head cross bar and state-wide hoists installed it. Didn't have any problems what so ever they did a really good job as far as I can tell with the installation and the bloke spent heaps of time measuring to make sure it was all square etc.

oh and nugs, hyperdrive have an advance branded hoist. before looking for mine I spoke to him and andy recommended that brand to me also. he said he's had it for years and years and hasn't had a problem, although his one is a 2 poster not a scissor lift.
