View Full Version : Soundbars
Anyone here using one or have looked into one? The thought has crossed my mind to get some better sound out of the TV and with the lack of space I have, not overly keen on getting an amp/speaker package or a whole surround system. Haven't read many reviews yet but the ones with the wireless subs look like the go.

My dad got the lg one with the wireless sub, it's pretty decent but the normal tv still cranks to a very loud volume. Only difference is the bass you get as the subs located behind the lounge. Would buy one if it came cheap with a new tv
Been doing a bit of reading around and it seems like the wireless subs/speakers do wreck havoc with your wireless network. Might look into other options now, or a wired set.

do not see the point in wireless sound always going to be shit, you need a cord to power the sub? whats another speaker cable.

Except the sub and cable would be located out of sight. The fact that the soundbar clips to tv and there's no cable travelling across the living room to give the sub signal

^^ Mate has the YAS-201 from Yamaha. Sounds very very good in his medium sized room. Doesn't interfere with any wireless devices either.

Have a B&W Zeppelin Air and have no issue with wireless sound, always sounds brilliant. As thommo said, sub just needs to be plugged into a power point and can just be tucked away in the corner.

Was looking at the Yamahas as well, this gives me a bit more confidence. Have now also been told they don't interfere with wifi networks... Needs more looking into. May just be the different brands and how many channels you can switch over to

I have a cheap one in the bedroom, makes a world of difference compared to just the tv speakers.

We have the Samsung one that was around $500, for what it is, it's perfect, loud enough for movies and goes pretty hard for music. Instantly powers up and connects to your tv when you turn the tv on as we also have a Samsung a tv, can also put hdmi through it and play music via Bluetooth etc.
Edit*
This one I'm pretty sure

def try and listen to some back to back or in the same area . the quality of sound is amazing....when I got one for parents I listened to all they had available at a Harvey N... the salesperson was very helpful and didnt go for the most expensive one at all , best sounding one was middle of the range and some of the yamaha ones were actually shit , especially considering the extra coin..... imo.
A lot of salesman cringed when I mentioned Yamaha, so good to see it's not uncommon.
From what I've researched the Sonos Playbar, and Philips Fidelio B5, seem to be the most re-occurring with positive reviews.

I remember being pleasantly surprised by how good the Sonos Playbar and Sub sounded back when I first had a listen. I bought the pair on the spot for my bedroom and have been stoked with them ever since! Highly recommend. And this is coming from someone who used to work at a high end home theatre store and love my big theatre systems.
Spent a week in October in Melbourne using the Sonos playbar and sub - very nice imho

Bought a sonos soundbar & sub the day after "TJ fired me" a few years ago, haven't regretted the purchase. Makes my (small) house rattle haha

i was that impressed i purchased a tiny portable bluetooth one and use that around the workshop when working on cars. for it's size that is even more impressive.
