Kicks off in a week today people. Got next week off work so hope to get out and see some action up in the hills near home on Friday (pending baby arrival may handbrake that plan pretty hard).

Anyone up to much regarding getting out and competing/crewing/officialling/watching? I see Jamie is giving his EMO a go. Should go well looking at his recent Rallysprint times.

Sunday morning I get to do City super special stage again with the old beards, before the rally proper arrives in the arvo. Should be fun, different course from last year and will have to try hard to beat Dick Ward in his Abarth/Rotar micro-monster thingo.

Big news (to me) however is that Luca has entered his Ferrari 288 GTO! He runs the DeTomaso Pantera with Group 4 plates, which is very, very nice and tough. He mentioned to me a while back he was sorting out a 288 GTO; well turns out he wasn't just boasting. Am desperately keen to see this thing. If you don't know what one is, well, get onto wikipedia or whatever and get schooled. Forerunner of the F40 essentially. They make a F40 seem cheap and common. Dunno how he managed to get one, let alone is keen enough to run it on a nasty kerbed course through streets and carpark...

Edit: Entry form says 288 GT0 Evoluzione - which is the rare as version as described on Wikipedia as follows:

Ferrari also built five 288 GTO Evoluzione models with more aggressive and aerodynamic body styling and increased power. The engine in the 288 GTO Evoluzione originally put out as much as 650 hp (480 kW). With weight of 940 kg (2,072 lb) the car had a top speed of 225 mph (362 km/h).[2] These cars form the clearest visual link between the 288 GTO and the F40 soon to follow.

All five are still in existence with one owned by the Factory on display in the engine manufacturing facility in Maranello

It looks sort of halfway between 288 GTO and F40 that followed. Pretty sure I like the 288 GTO look better, not that it matters. Will need to find out if it's a real Evoluzione. Also keen to know if it's in 600 plus HP tune!

Dipping my toes in as co-driver for my friend in his dealership-sponsored RenaultSport Megan 225 (with Melville Renault also supplying a four-person service crew with van and parts.. Not bad for a couple of first timers).

While TW certainly doesn't have the amount of competitive KMs you would find at another Targas around Oz, personally I'm just excited to a part of everything that makes up the four-day event. It's my first Targa and simply absorbing everything that happens over that time will be enough for me; as I'm not driving (or stumping up any $$) I don't particularly care how many competitive KMs there are.

But I hope to be out there driving my own rex in a couple years. Not my current rex; i plan to grab a tarmac rally-spec one to get serious in.

Good luck to all AL members involved.
Here's hoping all entrants make it to the Sunday evening dinner in full health. Ditto the cars, too! :)

288 replica? Ah the 308/328 with panels trick? Bit hard to a close replica due to different wheelbase, space frame and longitudinal motor/trans. Still keen to see. What kind of clown runs a super car replica anyways...

Luca picked this up when he was in the Usa buying a Porsche, He sent Ray Ferrari a photo of it and Ray told him to buy it
IIRC it only cost him something like 50k

Game on!

Long story, purchased ,on a whim, an evo 9 off this forum 4 months ago with a busted motor . Was too good to pass up. Temptation to do Targa West has been on the brain for many years for myself and my dad. This was the perfect opportunity. Never done a tarmac rally before cept for dutton a few years ago but no experience with pace notes. The clincher was my dad didn't know about the car or targa west until 4 weeks ago. It was a well hatched plan to surprise him, which I'm happy to report his response was 'you're fucken crazy'......success!!!!! Last 10'days have been an intense journey of learning pace notes and getting a rhythm in the car together.

Excited is an understatement!

Stages are underway at the RAC Driving Centre now.

You can track all the times live here:

It looks like JME has had some issues on the first stage, however his 2nd stage was very solid run which put him mid-pack.

Fellow Antilagger B0BB0 is doing well with driver Dave Heaton in 9th place outright after the first two stages.

Looking forward to going out there on Saturday and seeing everyone in action :)

Was pretty moist.... Any water infrastructure issues spotted TJ? :)

Conditions probably saved Rullo from shitting drivetrain parts on day 1. :) Must be some kind of record?? But the GTR's sound awesome.

My pick of the cars is the black porka RS replica in classic. Looks the biz and sounds horn.

Team Paluch is lookin hollywood and in good spirits.

Saving a mech issue, I might hang my hat on Pete Major in the emo running soft yokies.

Tough conditions with more mixed conditions to come. Smooth runnings to all those out there. Very early days...even if it is only 100 odd competitive kms... :) (sorry...being a targa snob...)

PS. Spectating has knobs on it :)

Yeah, results have some issues - like a classic challenge Escort being given a time of 2:31! Ferk, that's 21 seconds faster than I can do in the dry; better hang up my helmet now.

Thanks for the updates Darkside et. al. I got there to have a look just as it started to bucket down, but was too wet to get out to see much. In any case, after being there for 10 mins and nothing but solid rain the boss was on the phone saying get home with baby-needs-hospital-right-now-action. False alarm, thank goodness.

I see Brett Wilkinson is doing well thus far too in his EMO. Real action starts tomorrow I guess, out in the wild. Hopefully most of this rain blows through overnight as forecast. Pretty wild up here in the hills tonight at times with wind.

Plan to get across to Mundaring Weir Hotel tomorrow for some action.

Sad to see damage to the Caruso vette. Trust they're fine.

Another Tugga West run and won. Congrats to all those who got to the finish.

Top drive by Pete Major to hold the GTR's at bay. Had a quick chat with him at the finish and he was looking pretty shattered and reckoned he had been pushing much harder than he would have liked to, to stay in front. An 8 second final margin would give no time to rest. Top chase by Ben Searcy to keep him honest. First competitive drive in a GTR too i think.

My drive of the event would probably go to Brett Morse in the M3R. Awesome to get 8th outright on conditions that clearly favored AWD. Nice drive by Micheal Lloyd on his GC8 WRX in 7th.

Honorable mention to team Paluch who seemed to gain pace all through the event with numerous times in the top 5 by the end of it including pipping Jim Richards in his GT2RS. Emo with team paluch < GT2RS with Richards eh JME? :) I am sure planning is already well advanced for their next rally.

Congratulations to all who competed - I'm sure you're all still asleep, to say nothing of the service crews. Well done to the GTI girls winning Challenge modern after a tough battle with Vlad Raz in the Fiesta. He was giving 100% through the city stage (carpark commitment!) to try and catch/force a mistake, but the girls hung on.
..
Some video from the City Stage yesterday, during the VSCC sprints before the grown-ups arrived for their final stages. Course was good, even though the tigher stuff hurt my times a bit. Overall think it was a little better than last years course. Still would love to do Malaga stage, but pretty sure car would not be so keen. Doing 3 runs on city stage with only about 3 - 5 mins between runs gave the brakes something to think about as it was. Anyways, less talk, more footage...
