Hey - Can anyone recommend me a laptop with a built in rs232 serial port and also a few usb ports. I cannot use a usb to serial adapter / cable etc as I've already tried and some don't talk to particular ecu's.

One of the guys at work has a Panasonic Toughbook which has an RS232 port, he's not here at the moment but I'm pretty sure it's a recent model.
Otherwise Toshiba or Lenovo (formally IBM) would be the go

I've seen the Toughbook its about 2200ish from what I've seen on Austin computers website. I just spoke with Lenovo they said they didn't have anything. Ill check out Toshiba. I've got a tecra model Toshiba atm with the serial port but its old school.

Yeah the internets telling me newer Tecra supposedly have them, but it's not reflected by their website.
Dell also has a dock station for a good chunk of it's laptops that includes a serial port

Yep, we use HP Probooks at work. 6560b or whatever that updated version of that is. Built in Serial port + 4 USB's. Pretty tough. Ours go mining and don't fail much.

was told the s or c 850 Toshiba had it as well. their website doesn't mention anything about it. Looking at the 6560B HP atm that will prob do the trick for tuning as tuning software is power hungry.
