Just bought got a new Sony eXperia Z, coming from apple it's little bit like double dutch.
kinda after a crash course on any half hidden away tweaks/tips
and any relevant/awesome apps.
last three phones have been jailbroken so not too worried about getting into the guts of it
Cheers

tasker is probably the interesting app to get... I use a lot of location based tasks so you can set it to turn on wifi when at home, bluetooth when in the car, silent when at work etc
i like doubletwist and airsync for music (connects to itunes on your desktop and syncs wirelessly)
apart from that facebook and all the usual apps are pretty much same same

ESFile explorer - to browse/copy from your PC harddrives
SwiftKey - Replacement keyboard (shits all over the stock keyboard)
ActionLauncher - replacement launcher -> this one is a bit more of a personal preference but highly recommend it (so basically new homescreen)
as for tips and tricks just have a google search

SuperGNes Emulator if you ever get bored and feel like playing the old school SNES games - fantastic.
GTA games are available also.
Stock standard apps are pretty similar between the two so you'll only notice a difference in menu functions and shit probably - at least that's what I've gathered from my mates recent switch from an iPhone to a SG4.
May be worth paying attention to this thread too: http://www.antilag.com/forums/showthread.php?38425-Android-users
Depends how extensive your use is with the phone really.

Swype - Better than Swiftkey, and I've been using Swiftkey since it came out, doesn't seem to be as shit as the Samsung pre packaged shit.
Apart from that, just the usual apps that you'd use for Iphone are pretty much the same for android these days.
I haven't done anything to my xperia Z in regards to mods, just works awesome from the box.

what makes swype better?

what makes swype better?Swype goes to shit with age for some reason, starts autocompleting your words with mistakes that you've accidentally added in there.
Swiftkey used to be next-level better, but in the last few months it's just turned to shit, interpreting your swyping with the weirdest of words.
Currently using Swiftkey & sticking with it, but for someone starting out I would definitely recommend Swype.

Like mentioned, Swiftkey has gone shit, the prediction is way off, the swipe side of it is terrible.
Swype is more refined and so far haven't had any issues with it.I get it to learn from emails and shit to keep it current of my gibberish.

I have a HTC One - is there a way of copying TV series from PC to Phone so you can watch (i.e. is there a particular app you need)? I copied a show to the 'movies' folder but cant seem to access it.

HTC One's interface is alright, but their gallery and movie player apps shit me to tears.
Download VLC (free on the android store) & don't look back.

so once I download the app - do i drop and drag the tv series i want to watch into a related folder, or just keep popping them into the 'movies' folder (standard folder that displays when I connect phone to laptop via USB) and the app will detect the content?

Just put it on your phone somewhere and VLC player will find it.

Pretty much all you need.
Android will download and update its self when it needs to, and you can just connect your phone to your PC and it acts like a USB stick / drive. (good bye itunes restriction! :) )
Welcome to a new breed of smart phone. Glad to see some folk are finding the light.
Welcome to being ahead and always up to date in technology and features available on smart phones, instead of a laughable 3-4 years behind (apple).
Dont install any "app killer" apps as they just churn battery life. Most nexus android devices, you can hold the Home button and swipe away apps you are no longer using, therefore saving your battery. (least my 2010 Nexus S with Jellybean you can) ... I think Apple IOS7 just introduced that a week or 2 ago.....
also for all you faggot gym junkies and your tight ass sailor shorts or hipster jeans
samsung have made you a custom new android phone:
http://hypebeast.com/2013/10/samsung-announces-galaxy-round
taking even more of apples market away. :p maybe the iphone10 will be like this ?

That's always been available in ios, they just changed it to a swipe instead of clicking a X.

That's always been available in ios, they just changed it to a swipe instead of clicking a X.It's always been like that with Android as well, it just changes from phone to phone.
With my HTC One you have to double-tap the home button (though that may be just a cyanogenmod thing). With other phones it's always been hold-the-home-button though.
