this is a long shot, probably wont get any results but i can always hope.
gf found a galaxy s3 on gumtree cheap, problem was it was in albany. seller was happy to post and since sending the money over on tuesday, havent heard a word from him and wont reply to any messages or calls.
pingpingpingpings name is daniel wiers (supposedly) and his numbers 0415160461. could be a fake name and might not even be in albany at all. but the way i see it, he posted on gumtree so he must have been expecting people to come pick it up, and maybe took advantage of the situation presented to him
cheers for any help
10mins since first post and no standard "pics of missus" posts?
You're all slipping.

this was a direct deposit, no way of getting money back :(
and missus has a 180 and knows lots of people on different forums, anything i posted would get back to her and eventually lead to my face getting kicked in
hoping someone might know this guy in albany so we can make a trip down to him

Unfortunately Mikes probably right. Lesson learned, next time exchange cash for goods, or use a third party payment system that can be refunded.

Congrats on your first post that hasn't been about how awesome bikes are.
To the op might be worth a shot of contacting the bank and swing if you can find out if this Daniel guys bsb is an Albany bank. Might help track him down if you really feel you want to. Not much but it's a start

280 bucks? You'd use that in fuel driving down there ... Personally I'd scour gum tree for cheap lumbar, build a little bridge and carry on with my life, your misses needs to be a little less nieve... Treat every one like they're gonna rip you off on gum tree!

Ive got a nice bridge for sale, your missus could buy that off me for a very reasonable price and charge people to use it. She'll make her money back in no time. I take cheques please make them out to Mr C.Ash.

If you find something you like on gumtree interstate/non metro area and want to be protected see if the seller will list the item on ebay and pay via paypal.

Don't need eBay. Send payment as goods/services on PayPal and you're protected anyway. Just don't send it as gift. EVER.

Not sure how secure PayPal is meant to be but a few weeks ago I went to use the trusty plastic and it bounced. Shock horror and here I am telling the person 'there is money in the account'
Used efpos instead and called bank.
Some 2000 paypal accounts were hacked. Banks were waiting for people to contact them for real deal people making enquiries. Something to do with how they set up their security for the cards. Ends up being a paypal employee that sold off credit card details.
Bank sends new card with completely different numbers. Happy days. Continue shopping.
*Edit. Changed cars for card. Thanks 4slide.*

i dont see anything wrong with that. as long as they are prepared to send you the money upfront (bank transfer, money order, bank cheque).
but yes, generally, gumtree should be transacted only face to face.

As a seller I couldn't care less who and how the transaction was completed as long as I had the cash in hand (ie. bank transfer, money order - something that they cannot reverse)
As a buyer I would only transact face to face.

Sad but true. Just like my hit and run case. The police are not going to investigate for $280. And it will be chalked up as a learning experience.

I got done recently for some Liverpool tickets.. pingpingpingping used a prepaid card from QLD. Learnt lesson..
Then got contacted by someone else who got done by him too. Said his name was James, and was pickup only from Echuca in Vic - out of the way (like Albany).
Anyhow, see details of his BSB from transaction:
BSB Number 880-100
Bank Code: 88 | State code: 0 | Branch code: 100
Institution Heritage Building Society Limited
Branch Name Australia Post Prepaid Cards
Street Address 400 Ruthven St
Suburb Toowoomba
State QLD
Postcode 4350

Get someone to contact him saying they are in Albany and keen to pick up ASAP. When/if he says its sold or whatever, get someone else to contact him asking if he could post it to Perth. If its all of a sudden available again you've got something to work with
