the first test has just started
im guessing foxtel has coverage of it?
otherwise www.cricket.com.au for live scores, and the vodafone app is up and running again with the live scores.
anyways, im not feeling confident about this series, i think it will get ugly.
would of been nice to get Fawad Ahmed in the series (side note: http://zeenews.india.com/sports/cricket/pakistani-fawad-ahmed-is-now-australian-officially_764901.html) but they chose a 19 year old debutant (Agar) over Nathan Lyon for spin ... could this prove expensive with runs?

I thought the Aussie bowlers were a bit loose really. Run rate of around 3.7 at one stage. Lots of boundaries though because we kept an aggressive field. We certainly did not bowl anything like the peach that Clarke got out to.
The very first over was that rubbish it reminded me of the English here not last time but the time before when we won 5-0 and their first ball went to 2nd slip.
4/75 overnight chasing 215. If we can get to 150 surely we are a chance.

Haddin has to make his selection count and use all his experience to carry us over the line, everyone else has to help out and not play any stupid shots. Plenty of time to get there, it would just be great to get there and put them on the back foot when everyone was about expecting a 5-0 series

I've always been a fan of Watson, but LBW *again*..and that review he did in the first innings, fuck me...it's so depressing.
Funny that you mention poor Katich, these are some of his results for Lancashire -

40* Lancashire v Durham Manchester 14 Jul 2013 T20
10 Lancashire v Derbyshire Manchester 12 Jul 2013 T20

62* Lancashire v Leics Manchester 7 Jul 2013 T20
18 Lancashire v Yorkshire Leeds 5 Jul 2013 T20
28 Lancashire v Derbyshire Derby 2 Jul 2013 T20
48 Lancashire v Notts Manchester 1 Jul 2013 T20

Rogers has been a little unlucky 2nd test.....but partly due to his own errors.
Warner, just looked up those 2 innings, shocking.
Fawad Ahmed picked up 8 wickets that match also, which is interesting.
God knows what we're going to do. It really isn't something that can change overnight. I believe in sticking with people....can't just keep dropping players, but the thing is nobody is playing well at all and nobody is in form and has been in a while. We're just not good enough I guess.

Jesus H Christ, that is terrible
What shits me about these decisions is that many of them are not utilising the age old rule of any doubt going towards the batsman. How much fucking doubt did there need to be to give Kwyjibo not out?! The time taken for the third umpire to press the fucking button shows exactly how much doubt there was!
1JZNOSHIT
02-08-2013, 02:34 PM
As blatant an error it was, on what basis from the evidence they have could the third umpire reverse the decision?
Does the 3rd umpire have to have 100% conclusive evidence to over turn the main umpires decision?
They can't use the snick-o-meter and the hot spot is not considered 100% accurate. The audio is inconclusive although its clear from the vision he hits his pad.
It is baffling how the 3rd umpire called it out. There MUST be some dumb ass reason. Dharmasena (3rd ump) cannot possibly be that retarded unless he is corrupt. I cannot wait to hear the ICC response to Cricket Australia.

As much as we can hate the 3rd umpire for fucking it right up & potentially setting Khawaja's career back a year or two, the worst thing was he was given out in the first place.
How is it worse that its given out in the first place? its much worse that third umpire couldn't correct the decision when all methods of review given to him clearly showed he was not out. The field umpire is watching it in real time and its all going at a much faster pace, its very easy to mistake a snick sound for bat on pad with bat on ball when its all going so quickly

Because once he's given out, he's out. At least with DRS there's a chance that errors can be fixed & keep the game fair. Everyone makes mistakes, but at the highest level they should be minimal at worst, even Rogers said it didn't look like he hit it & he's 1-2m away from the bloke making the call.
The third umpire should be sacked for managing to reach that decision, but even with no DRS we would still be pissed off about what happened yesterday. There's arguments for and against the system, but for example it's easier to hear a nick at club level cricket than in front of 20-30,000+ noisy fans in party mode. The 3rd ump should have every resource made available to him straight away....and not be a corrupt pingpingpingping!!

Katich had a fairly well documented 'go' and cricket Australia which unfortunately gimped his chances or playing international cricket again. The purple circle of high end sports will always play a significant role in selections.
Future lies in Marsh, Warner, Watson (even though he has underperformed recently, he has 6x test scores in the 90's so he is capable and talented), Smith and with some work Hughes. Kawaja has a couple of gritty years of shield cricket ahead of him to get back on track. The kid has the ability but he has concentration issues by the looks of it.

Watson is a quality player with a big future, the bloke has over 6 first class scores between 90 and 99. So anyone complaining about his lack of first class ton's need to rethink the importance of 10 runs. I strongly agree with Hayden's recent comments around Clarkes leadership being a bigger issue as he doesn't demand the respect nor the performance/grit from his players that should be required. Shit rolls down hill, start at the top I say, every since the Bingle incident he has lost the plot. I guess public humiliation will do that.
With the rite leadership Watson will become a great top order bat, beyond that he is currently in a bit of a slump obviously, but we all stood around and watched Punter have a 4 year long form slump and supported him when he was throwing up donuts innings after innings and was a below average captain.
I would say that majority of the Watson haters have never picked up a cricket bat never mind played the sport at a reasonable level to be able to appreciate the talent and ability he has and what he offers the Australian team.
EDIT: Almost forgot he is Australia's most economical bowler and constantly takes critical wickets.
WHAT A NUFFY AYYYYYY

This. Just watched about 5 overs before packing it in, biggest cheer was when Bell hit a single with a pull shot. Australia reviewed a not out lbw decision, hawk eye showed it would have hit the stumps but the decision remained at not out cos it pitched outside the line. Don't know how technical they get with it but I've seen lbw given from others that have pitched outside the line...dafuq

He might not be the greatest captain Australia has ever seen but he is one of our best run scorers over the last year or so. Can't afford to drop him, just need him scoring runs.
Whole top order is fucked at the moment. Something needs to click but fuck knows how they make it happen. Potentially a good lineup, just fragile as fuck and prone to really bad collapses.

I think it's fair to say we got outplayed today. Some good bowling by Broad, and some pathetic shots from the top order. Thank god, yet again, for the tail order to save us the humiliation of a complete whitewash. I hope they can stay on to see out 350 but my thoughts that on a fresh ball, a few wickets will fall early tomorrow morning.
That is of course, if the rains don't roll in. Looking forward to seeing Johnson throw down a few balls on this tarmac of a pitch with his new form, should collect a few scalps.

Yes!!!
Best part is the batters can open the shoulders and have a crack now. Throw the bat around, get 150-250 quick runs and then attack from there.
Watson, Bailey, Warner, Smith, Haddin can all treat it as a 1 day or twenty20 and smash it around.
Love test match cricket and how quickly it can change

Um i dno about that. They need to bat the full day tomorrow, put as many runs on the board as possible and have a slash in the last session. You dont want England having over 2 days to bat and chase an average last innings total. You want 2 solid days to bowl them out and them need to chase 500+.
So in short if they treat tomorrow like a 20/20 it could be the nail in our coffin.
Passage GT
22-11-2013, 04:34 PM
What Dan said, 500+ lead and 2 days to bowl them out, batters can go easy and hold onto their wickets and build it up, hopefully get the job done unlike recent tests where they've fucked up a good start
MadDocker
22-11-2013, 05:53 PM
Best part about tests is the different scenarios and how they might work. In my opinion, we are better off with the poms batting for a win then trying to hang around for a draw. 350ish and the poms think they have a chance and will take it on. 500ish and they'll be playing for the draw from the start.
Just happy winning is an option and the poms arent 3/300 or something right now.
disc0-dan
22-11-2013, 07:17 PM
If we can't bowl a team out in two days on a 4/5 day old wicket, we don't deserve to win. If they play for the win or draw it shouldn't matter at that stage.
urabus
22-11-2013, 09:37 PM
The aim has to be 100 per session. That puts them with a lead of 430 at tea tommorrow. Have a massive crack for 10-15 overs, declare and then have 15-20 overs at them before stumps.

Johnson to Root, OUT, full and wide, Root chops down on it and is there a thin edge? It's taken brilliantly by the diving Haddin and Erasmus gives it but the batsman immediately asks for the review. Root possibly thinks it was a bump ball, or the effect of the bat thumping into the ground confused him but there was a clear deflection and the decision will be upheld - Johnson mo's down another, England three down

Agreed with that. The 3-0 in England didn't really give credit to us though, we showed improvement straight away under Boof. He smashes Shahid Afridi's 17-year old record for the fastest international century.
What a way to start the year!"

A HUNDRED!!!
Runs.
5/101, not sure if bad batting or good bowling...

I think its a mixture of both.
In saying that, while it is "Romantic" as Clarke said... George Bailey should have been dropped!

Haddin putting the innings back on track. Wish every player in the Aus team was as steady/reliable as him.

With his form I think they should be playing him higher up the order

He plays a better suited game to batting with the tail I recon. Moving him up means you could be relying on someone like Bailey to bat deep with the tail which would be a disaster. Only a personal opinion obviously but I recon they've got him placed just right at the moment with the current side.
Reshuffle the side and he could easily bat at 3-5 with his form at the moment.

Smith with another 100 and now thanks to him and Haddin we will have a competitive 300+. As for Bailey, he's not going to play tests for Australia any more, time for the future & leave him for ODI's where he's suited

Having Haddin down the order is what's saving us at the moment. He's playing the role Mike Hussey played for so many years, "time to save everybody's arse again"

yep lower order save again - it does seem that its very hard to get the australian team in a position where there isnt at least one batsman who gets on with the job.
Carberry, well he wont be in the next squad.

Pretty much 2 down, Anderson shouldn't hang around too long. Glad Carberry didn't make a run, he was out twice before that lol

I had to stop watching this yesterday at work because of the shithouse score, pretty sure last I checked it was 5/96.
Flicked it on today, Aussies are doing very well. The poms are rather retarded.

utterly demolished them, i went to get some lunch at the tea break and came back to 3 wickets gone!
Johnson deserved man of the series, destroyed the hearts and minds of the english battling lineup.

A test all over in 3 days is ridiculous. Good on Rogers getting another 100 too, there was a stage he was struggling and at risk of losing his spot but he looks solid now
Loved the "Australia - you fucking beauty!!" from the team song being heard loud and clear on live tv :D

Great result and you can only beat who is in front of you but does anyone else think that we are going to epically struggle in south africa?
The top 6 batsmen arent putting a high enough value on their wicket and SA wont be so undisciplined to let haddin get away from them.
I hope i am wrong but i reckon wea re on a bit of a false high.

This is the best form we've had in a long time...................................everything is real positive and that is a start.
Team moral is real high, bowlers are all disciplined and we've got more in the storeroom...for once it looks like it'll be quite hard to get INTO the team.
England were bad. But the fact is we raped them, didn't give them a chance :p
our batting is questionable though, one or two people i'm rather worried about.
I say bring Marcus North to S.Africa...he's playing extremely well in Shield and also Hughes as usual, he must be picked.
I am certain Bailey has to go.

It will be a much harder test (forgive the pun) thats for sure...
Keen to see how the 2 bowling attacks stack up, both very good IMHO
Some of the aussie batsmen are getting into form, but could be shutdown quick smart by morkel/steyne etc.
