View Full Version : Electrical soldering - anyone here do it?
Long story as short as possible.
Have a guy here from England on a R&D trial with a prototype device. (at great cost to several contributing companies around Aus) I am responsible for the trial.
Device damaged in transit.
Wires need to be solded to circuit board (I think 4/5 - usb connector to board? Phone call was a bit patchy)
Has attempted a fix but no idea if it will work till we get to first trial site tomorrow morn.
Anyone here do it for a living etc? And if I needed it done tomorrow would it be doable? I dont think its a lot of work but obviously a lot rides on having the device work is kinda vital.
Alternatively anyone recommend someone?

Maybe one of those places that resolder consoles may be helpful? Or even a computer shop?

is it micro components or normal PCB components?
if micro, then its usually done by computer programmed robot setup ... will have to find a specialist who can do it by hand.
actually, bug Richard ... since hes Airforce, he may know some of the techies, their accuracy has to be almost perfection when it comes to electronics and soldering.. as a lot weighs on it

R and I electronics in boag street Morley. Primarily a tv/amp repair shop but I have also had some electronic control boards repaired there. If the broken bits are surface mount you may be up shit creek as most cannot be repaired. I have also use a bloke in Scarborough for component level repairs to some heavy equipment control boards/pcms. I can dig up his number if no better option pops up.

These guys replaced a broken micro usb connector on an android pc board of mine. They do excellent work, may be worth a try.

Perth digital once had an item of mine in for repair for many many months. Just a heads up if you require fast turn around.

I could do it, but I don't have the training or skill involved.

Theres a bloke on the Sil forums that does the nistune board installs, (oneten). His solder work comes pretty highly recommended and he's always available. Plus he has a oscilloscope, which is just cool.

If it's just some points on a PCB to a USB connector then pretty much any iron-wielding monkey should be able to do it as the components aren't really temp-sensitive and I highly doubt the PCB will be multi-layered on a prototype device.
Plus he has a oscilloscope, which is just cool. Can verify: oscilloscopes are just cool.

I'm not sure if you are old for making the joke, or I'm old for getting it.
Yeah the temp fixed made works but Owain will definitely ring you if needed.
