From what I understand they have begun to move in this week? Haven't heard from Dan in a while, but that might be because it's been a while since the Eagles played a decent game of football... ;)
I do actually hope that things go well down there, collie is a pretty good place to re-home genuine asylum seeker families, as opposed to chucking them into the ghettos.
<3 you Dan.

"Those without work rights - the majority - are expected to receive a $220 a week payment, equivalent to 89 per cent of the dole"
that is most upsetting, why not give them work rights so they can actually get a job and support themselves

Saw an interview with the locals, some were typical Hill billy folk took our jerbs, some people were actually happy to have them there, me personally, if they are genuine asylum seekers, then give them full work rights and shit, fuck living where they did, I'd jump on an inner tube to get away. If they want to work hard for shit money then let them, send our dole bludgers back to their countries, fair exchange :)

Doesn't bother me in the slightest
1 of my neighbours came from East Timor 5 years ago, nicest family ever
Of course there is some red necks going nuts though, especially the ones who've been waiting for government housing for years

Used to live next to a refugee family in Manjimup (duplex building). There was a bloke, his wife and their 3 kids. Super nice family, constantly invited me around for dinner and were always happy to have a chat when we bumped into each other out the front. I think they were from Pakistan but the memory is a bit foggy now.

"Official government sources put the number of visa overstayers in Australia at approximately 50,000. This has been the official number of illegal immigrants for about 25 years and is considered to be low. Other sources have placed it at up to 100,000, but no detailed study has been completed to quantify this number, which could be significantly higher."
"Between 7 million and 20 million illegal immigrants are estimated to be living in the United States but the nature of illegal immigration makes the exact number difficult to determine."
"There are between 550,000 and 950,000 illegal immigrants in the United Kingdom, with a figure of 750,000 as the most likely number"
I don't think we have much to worry about....

They only tried to blow me up twice, so, you know, pretty decent overall...
dont want to be a cold hearted bastard with a 'fuk the refugees send them back to where they came from' attitude, but it amazes me how quickly the government acts and finds refugees free homes and provides them with benefits when they cant do the same for Australian citizens that are homeless especially when you hear about families with kids having to live out of a car and pensioners that cant afford to have electricity or gas connected. Government needs to sort out their priorities. Im all for helping out those in need but I think a little more needs to go to our citizens first.

I still find it hard to see how people end up homeless and shit though... because if these families can live in state housing at 90% of the dole why can't a normal australian family have the same with 10% more dole?
I do agree with you, but tbh, I'd rather see my current and future taxes going to bringing people who are exited to be here and willing to work, who will raise future generations of hard working kids who will pay taxes. Than give money to those who have grown up in arguably one of the most opportune places and have become complacent with the support of the government.
Obviously that's a black and white view and everything else is largely grey, but I hope you get what I mean.

I'd rather refugees living in Australia than coons, atleast they want to work. I'd be happy to see my taxes going to them as I've met a few and they've all been nice even though they come from broken countries.

Have you seent he list of benefits the typical government funded family recieves?
No wonder there are multiple generation families on the dole.
I know there are are a lot of legitimate cases where people have ended up homeless due to losing jobs and losing their houses and not having the family help to save them, but don't let the bleeding hearts trick you into thinking there isn't a world of support out there for people who make the effort to find/use it.
We are lucky here that being born in Australia means you automatically are "entitled" to milk the government for your entire life and contribute fuck all, all the while if you come here seeking asylum, you are frowned upon despite the fact you are happy to work your ass off to give your family a chance at a great life.
Help those that help themselves.

No idea in terns of cash, but I'm referring to heavy discounts in healthcare, licensing, subsidised rents, childcare and so on, no wonder tey don't want to work and pay full price like the rest of us.

To big a topic to generalize what some people get and what others don't. It also comes down to the fact that some Aus citizens aren't aware of what they can and cant get.
In my experience also, Elderly Australians carry a fair bit of pride around, and dont always want to take handouts.

I know a single parent and this is what he gets
$400 fortnight
$120 in rental assistance
No cheap licensing
Also you can still get some of them handouts while doing a full time job , also you can recieve discounted school fees if the kids go to private school ..

Must be the License then, regardless I'm not talking about one off cases, as mentioned I'm referring to long time claimants of the dole and multi generational families on it.
Missing the point for the sake of a Troll.
