View Full Version : What could of you spent your money on.

I'm mowing the lawns today and passing by the cars I have. I stopped and pondered thoughts of how much I have spent on these cars (cars/bikes full stop).
This year alone with Race Wars would of been around 5k. And it's not even 6 months into the year. Keen as to buy a outdoor spa but got a price for a blower for the M5. 13k - there goes the spa for another year.

So - tell us about what you could of should of spent your money on but decided to inject it into the venturi or injectors of your toy(s).

Coke and hookers?

Makes spending money on the car seem sensible...

Plenty of things,

Like 30 pure bred pugs,
A huge fish tank,
A fancy horse,
A strawberry farm,
Persian rugs,

Sky's the limit man!

Thought maybe grammar lessons judging by the thread title lol.

Could have probably done something sensible and buy the car i wanted and spent the money doing everything right the first time, with plenty of left over change.

Probably could have finished the damn project car i have intended to start 10 times over. But if i had it all sorted and had money sitting in the bank, well it probably would go into another set of wheels.

The recent sale of a F430 GT3 car with spares package for around the same money I've wasted/will continue to waste on another vehicle to get it to a position where it's still going to be slower than that car made me want to slit wrists when first found out what it sold for. Chuck in the cash I've spent on stupid things like a Police light kit, flash tuners ect for a rental car and so forth I've been down right stupid of late.

However you're here for a good time not a long time and at the end of the day if you're in a position where can afford to do silly things and it doesn't adversely effect anyone else why not do it. If you get some enjoyment however juvenile, puerile or just down right ridiculous it may be it may be it's worth it.

A guy I used to work with told me I shouldn't buy a car to spend money on, and that I should buy a unit in an area like Wembley, then another when I could afford to get a second one. This was during my apprenticeship, working every weekend & public holidays etc so I was able to have cash even though I wasn't earning much. If I had of taken his advice, when the housing boom started I would be set right now & equity would probably have me an awesome car to go along with it. But I didn't take his advice, and fuck knows when I will be able to get my first place on my own now

DEPRESSING THREAD IS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!

I was exact same, 2nd year apprentice in 2002 and my boss at the time a rich italian fellah told me i should buy one of them apartments in the first blocks goin up on Newcastle St they were about $150k buying off the plans. I replied nah fuck that got plenty of time for property and used the money that could of been a deposit to rebuild the engine in my S13 instead.

this year has been pretty good for me actually.
signed for house 8 months ago, it couldnt process until last week, so in the meantime i saved an additional 10k, bought some mods for the car (and got to race it a few times) and built up a little equity in the house interest free.

Put it down to experience and start now. There are places selling for 320k near Cockburn Central. So it's an apartment but it's a start and $320k (+first home owners if they are still doing that) and you're on your way.

I predict Cockburn will be the new big boom around Perth. Major Train Station, Major Hospital, Major Uni, Major Shopping Centre and Beaches not too far. All the key ingredients to cash up on investment or place to live.

Shoulda bought a house for $200k back in 2003 when I had the chance, but would have needed to sell the Skyline to do so (wasn't gonna happen)

Money spent on 944 could have almost bought me an early E92 M3

That place is over 10 years old and it will be some 10 more years before it takes off. People need to do home work before spending that kinda money.
Bad Investment points for that area IMO are:
- ex skin drying sheds - arsenic infected soil as developer was running out of $$ and took short cuts. Now some people are not allowed to water or plant their grounds.
- Has a commercial freight train line. Including carrying Lead Carbonate - remember what happen to the Esperance birds?
- Lead Carbonate train derailed some 5 years ago.... right in front of the South Beach Area where the train crossing is in front of the Penthouses
- Port Coogee side Developer was really low on $$$ and took the original planning of Stage 1 and 2 to SAT. Won and now blocks with ocean views will have 6 stories houses
All this equal for a fall in property prices. Don't be shy to offer 50% of asking price. In 10 years the soil will subside - people would of cut their losses and moved out. $$$ value will go up.

Spent too much on fun stuff, but got lucky and built first house in 2001 before it got stupidly expensive. Blew most of money since on cars and yacht. Now back to reality with 'new and improved' mortgage, wife and breeding. Keep getting bad ideas about selling expensive car and getting a cheap one (sub 30k) and ditching the balance into mortgage. Nah...the bank wouldn't like me to do that, so I won't!

Wouldn't have a clue what I have spent/lost!

In the last year wasted 15k on a car since sold, and also realised a reasonable loss when I sold the XW. The XW was worse as I paid for that while at uni where $ were bit short, cut back a few social things along the way due to lack of funds. I also borrowed money to do some parts, which resulted in money wasted on other things along the way. Wah

Very minimum I would have another property, and I would have had one a lot earlier in the boom.

Also spent too much on a stroker last year, though it is fun to drive, but still unfinished... I've cut back on cars of late, its the restaurants/drink bill that is killing me now days

my last year of racing MX was a bit of a waste of money. $61,350. that includes buying,modding/building my race and practice bike, plus travelling to numerous locations around Australia to race. All to crash out at the 1st round of the very next year and not be able to race again for at least 6 years (to be safe).

Buying and building my hilux into what i thought i wanted it to be, spent around 23k on that, to now have it de-regoed and spending more money on being completely changed to link suspension and rear steer, external and internal cage and a rebuilt motor, should've bought a cheaper hilux to begin with and built it this way to start with. would've saved 9k on that alone.

Building my old 45 series cruiser was a waste also. went from bog stock 3f petrol to sprung over on 35s twin locked, internal cage and 350 chev. all to sell it for 3k 2 years later.

live and learn i suppose, argh fuck that its fun.
