Ok so currently using my housemates broadband and it is shit slow!!!! Forget what it is. It's a white box and is standalone broadband that's unlimited. I'm looking at getting a plan myself. I don't need a home phone but would take it if I had to. What are my best options? I would use it for downloading music, movies, tv shows. Browsing the web. Would like a minimum of 200gb download limit. I live in manning so if anyone in this area could share who they're with it would be great.
Sounds like vivid wireless?

Yeah it must be. I thought it would be fine today as everyone is at work, I'm the only one using it but no!!! Still crap. Are iinet pretty good speed wise??
Speed will depend on the wire condition and distance from exchange.

Lookup your address, report back with line distance!
Edit - just did 14 Henning Crescent for laughs and turns out there's an exchange in the middle of Manning.

Should be pretty fast, unless there's no ports to plug you in to or something.

1564m from it. Is that bad??

Not at all. But that's just an estimated line length, not guaranteed. You should be OK though.
Attenuation estimates:
Less than 1km should be 23-24Mbit
1.0km = 13.81dB = 23Mbit
1.5km = 20.7dB = 21Mbit
2.0km = 27.6dB = 18Mbit
2.5km = 34.5dB = 13Mbit
3.0km = 41.4dB = 8Mbit
3.5km = 48.3dB = 6Mbit
4.0km = 56dB = 4Mbit
4.5km = 62.1dB = 3Mbit
5.0km = 69dB = 2Mbit

depends on the suburb also.
don't forget to check here:
http://www.nbnco.com.au/when-do-i-get-it/rollout-map.html?cid=ps:ggl:Education-NationalBrand-Search-Computer:where-is-the-nbn-rollout&gclid=CJ_p--G84bcCFUNipQodazQAfQ
to see how far away the NBN is. If your area is less than 1 year then don't sign up for two years, it could even be available now?

Vivid wireless de-prioritises all P2P traffic so you only get decent torrent speeds between about midnight and 6am. Anywhere outside of those hours and you'll get fuck all.
There are alternatives but they cost money...

I'm 1497m from exchange and sync at 16-18mbit, but that map tool is "as the crow flies" not line length.

LOL it's always seemed to be de-prioritised 24/7.
I use Vivid + HMAVPN... get excellent speed all the time :)
Eventually I'll change to a landline, I was holding out for NBN, but that's +5 years away in my area :(

Yeah I forgot to point out that you would most likely have at least the distance by road from exchange to your place. Google map it once you know the address of the exchange for a closer idea!

speed also depends on age of the wiring, quality of your internal house wiring and a shitload of other factors. Only way to know for sure is to sign up and check your sync speed.
