posting for a friend.
he just baught a bov, bolt on to his stock intercooler, he has a wrx evo8 newest model. he is wondering if he will need to buy another bov if he gets an aftermarket intercooler soon. i thought you might just need an adapter to fit the bov somewhere else, maybe on the return pipe from the new intercooler.?
any help appreciated. but please post if you really know.
none of this "ohh if you do this it SHOULD be ok"
thanks

Some aftermarket coolers have an adaptor welded on to accomodate the Subaru BOV. What cooler was he looking at getting?

The stock BOV is VERY good, it will never leak no matter how much boost you run through it, so its a good idea to keep it (although it doesnt look pretty).

If he needs an adaptor welded on, it has to go onto the pipe between the outlet of the cooler and the throttle body.

im not sure on what brand cooler and neither is he. he doesnt have the stock bov, he just baught an gfb hybrid stealth fx. its fitted right infront of the topmount cooler and the plumb back is connected also.
he is also wondering what to do with the original air box's temp wire things. he just baught a cheap pod but isnt sure what to do with those wires where it goes, i mean there is no place to plug them in after the pod goes on. having them properly installed is pretty important no? doesnt it measure the heat of the air that the filter is sucking in and alters the fuel mixture or something like that so its healthier for the engine?

and u suggested him to buy a differnt ecu, as ive heard the stock one on the new wrx's dont "benefit" from mods as the older ones do? is this true and is it a good idea to get an aftermarket one? and if so which ones do you recommend? andd whats the best you can take it to tune it?

The GFB StealthFX will have the same bolt pattern as the stock BOV, so if a cooler can accomodate the stock BOV, the GFB will fit also.

The "temp wires" going to the air box is actually the air flow meter, and yes...he will need this if he wants his car to work properly ;)

As for ECUs, MY01 onwards need an aftermarket item to get any benefits from mods....doing mods to an MY01 onwards WRX without doing any ECU mods will gain nothing, apart from noise, reduced fuel economy and maybe a bit more torque.

The BEST ECU is Motec, and they can be tuned by many places. I use Glen Baker from Autosport Electronics to tune mine, and he is the best there is for Motecs.

There are a whole heap of ECUs and interceptors available, it just depends what sort of money your mate wants to spend.

thanks for letting me know its the air flow meter. he is wondering how will he still fit this when the pod filter is fitted. because this meter is past the point of where it will be connected that. so when he takes off the orig air intake, the meter will go aswell? where will it go then?
