Boys,
Want to put down some quality fake lawn in the backyard. I have an area of approx 4x4m where I need it.
I have had a look at these guys, and like their Regal Grass Silk range, but quiet expensive I thought (they wanted $2k supplied and fitted)
http://www.regalgrass.com.au/
Is that a fair price?
Can anyone recommend comnpanies that are NOR.

I was under the impression $75 per square meter is roughly the ballpark. Smaller areas may be a bit higher!
Let me know what you end up with because I'm looking at doing my front of my new house in it

I had a bit over 20sqm done and it cost me $2300 from memory, so your price doesn't seem all that over the top.
You can get it done cheaper, but the grass looks shit.
Had approx 40 sqm done last year at $90 odd sqm laid, 50mm length 3 different colours / blends was one below their 'premium'
guys laid it in about 6 hours - pretty happy with it all
cant remember the name of it right now but its across the road from Bunnings in Wanagara

I may be a little low on pricing then :)
On another note, try and work out who APG get to do their display homes... A few I have been to have been the best/most natural looking of the lot

Usual cost for synthetic is between $25-$35 per sqm + 70mm of crushed road base + removing the old dirt. So normally works out to be material/works cost x2 plus GST is ball park for what someone will charge.
I doubt you will find it much cheaper than your quote due to the job being so small it's almost not worthwhile, saying that i just installed 32sqm for the same price and before anyone asks no i wont take on work as im strictly a government contractor.
Id give it a go yourself hire a kanga, get 1.5 cubes of fine crushed gravel compact it in screen it off lay out the synthetic pin it down and brush in some white sand. Places like koala grass have off cuts they sometimes sell cheaper left over on the roll from jobs

^^ Pretty much this.
I can organise to have it supplied & installed from various importers as well.
Shop around a bit if you like but you will struggle to find it for more than $5-$10 a square less for an area of that size. To install properly requires digging out existing earth, 70-80mm of cracker dust (Road base), the grass then a mixture of while sand and ribber chips agitated through the top.

Also be aware that if it's in full sun during summer it gets fuckin hot. Too hot to walk on bare foot.

A lot of people says this but I went to a display home on a 42 deg day this summer and stood on artificial turf with no shoes that had been in direct sun all day... It was warm but I could stand on it without at all being uncomfortable.

Maybe its just the cheap ones that absorb the heat more.

Well I had Regal Grass over the other day - my area is 4.1 x 4.3m. For their Silk Range 35mm - $1600 installed cashy.
I got a quote from Global Synthetic Grass in Morley - they do a similar product (V-Shape) to the Silk Range - quoted $1200 installed over the phone only..
Gonna go check Global out on Saturday and see if its as good as Regal's product.

The longer the blades of grass and the more sand you brush on top of it the cooler it is
My back yard in 16m x 4m and in full sun most of the day and it is easy to walk on

i ripped it out 2 weeks ago actually. Got real grass.
I still got the guys number if you want to go fake - I got something better than Regal (and cheaper).
Grass was good, but it stunk so bad when the summer sun hits it (dogs piss). I had blue metal underlay and everything, didn't drain like I thought it would.
I got Palmetto Buffalo grass now, ssoooooooo soooo much better.
pm me or post the number up if you dont mind.
ive got heaps of nice palmetto buffalo out the front, but too much paving out the back for real grass.
cheers

Anyone tried doing their verge in it?
Heard the council get shitty about "drainage"? I'd rather not waste water on it altogether.
i know my council (south perth), has banned it, so check with yours.
tbh, since you dont own the land I'm not sure i would be keen to spend thousands doing it - especially if the council or anyone could come along and take it away.

I've heard of some people shampooing their fake grass and it gets rid of the dog urine smell, don't know if it works though

just dilute some chlorine into a watering can and give it a soak. kills off the smell for a while, and shouldn't damage the grass (unless you bought cheap china spec shit)
