Looking to get another bike asap, will be used on the track mostly and ill probably have around 6k to spend.

previously I have an old gsxr 750 (1989) so I dont plan on going backwards power wise.

Not interested in a new bike as I have every intention of dropping it plus im not a fan of new item devaluation.

things Ive looked at so far, 06? gsxr 750.. things I liked about it was the auto clutch / engine cut off when you change without the clutch.

guy in the bike shop said you have to get the right bike for you, im pretty small (about 5"10 and 75kg) but would like to hear what to stay away from or what to look out for as this is pretty new to me.

cheers

Track only 99 R1 would be cheap and plenty of power.

05+ CBR600RR or R6 if you want track only.

Niva

ok, needs to be rego though as I dont want to get caught out if I cant afford a trailer straight away as I can just get someone to take it up for me.

mr_mike

look around i have seen first hand people buying unreg tracks bikes with trailers for $6-7k.

Niva

$700 for a single bike erde trailer. No excuses for riding out of license on a bike, especially if going to track it. There is currently a VTR1000 on PSB and CRCWA website for sale. Good starter bike for the track.

Niva, i'm not gonna deny it track riding is great fun but so is street riding with mates. The bike scene is so diffrent to the car scene its not funny, places you go on bikes and road that are fun on bike are just boring suburban streets* to cars. Stop being a dodgy fucker and lookin for a shortcut to go riding, do it proper, get ur lic and you will have way more fun than you have ever had in a car!

I get what ya saying, and licence is def on the cards. But I was doing motorsport long before I had my licence and I honestly think it gave me the edge compared to most people out on the roads my age at the time. Bikes scare me, being on a bike surrounded by curbs and people who dont think twice about pulling out scares me even more.

riding on the road sharpens your mind
riding on the track sharpens your skills

Still not seing the harm in getting good at controlling a bike before taking one out on the road, and having fun in the meantime

mr_mike
19-05-2013, 04:29 PM
Yeah i get what your saying. Remember track time is expensive ur lookin at about $200 a day, plus fuel, plus u'll need new tyres every 3rd or 4th day, plus brake pads, plus servicing. This is also not including repair costs if u crash.

I'm not saying dont go on the track i'm 100% for it, its awesome fun. But there is also so many other aspects to being part of the bike community. And i just thinkin ur jumping a step by going out on the track first.

Don't buy another licenced bike till you get your licence, pick up a prepped track 00-06 Jap bike (R6/GSXR/CBR/ZX) for $5-6k all up. If it does not come with a trailer allow another $750-1k for a decent one.

You can pick up 2nd hand slicks for fuck all, there is a thread on PSB selling them, I have 4 or 5 sitting here that will fit most modern 1000cc's

Servicing, brakes etc should be done regularly, but if its been looked after the bike should be trouble free.

Go nuts.

Supermoto racing is even cheaper than sportsbike racing usually about $50 for a practise night. plus there is 4 diffrent tracks you can do it Cockburn Gokart track, Wanneroo Gokart track, Midvale speed dome and Collie.
Was the main reason i bought the KTM was to go SM racing!!

I like the way Motard guys always say Motarding is cheaper than racing a road bike. I watched my mate go from racing a CBR1000RR to a KTM450EXC motard and he said it seemed like it would be cheaper but he ended up spending just as much. The only reason they used to spend less is because there was less track days. Motard will go through tyres and leathers more than road bikes. Either one is awesome fun but!!!!!

Just buy a track bike if you don't have your license, if it's not for you and you want to go riding on the road then you can buy a road licensed bike and at least know how to ride a lot better than most!

I dont get the motard thing, The reason I loved the bike was when you twist the one on the right and you have to hold on for your life. get that feeling in your stomach like a rollercoaster, or the first time u ever went in a fast car.

I just wanna buy something big and fast and give it shit without having to worry about hitting other people

Mike how many SM track/race clubs are there in Perth? Was on Supermoto WA but it didn't mention the Cockburn track. Have been thinking about picking up another 600 supersport but track only but im now leaning towards a motard to have some fun on those tight tracks, and I can still use the gixxer for a barbagallo fix when I want to. Best place or websites to scope out some already track prepped tards for sale? Minimal amount on gumtree really..
Cheers

There is just the one club, Cockburn is a touchy subject they used to race there then all the kart fags started complaining about a bit of limestone getting dragged on the track from the dirt section and had a sook so there is no racing there at the moment but that may change.
join the supermotoWa facebook page seems to be alot more stuff for sale posted on there.

Or if u want supercheap racing can go minimoto racing, pitbikes with scooter tyres. If its a track only bike u want yo can pick up a 450cc dirt bike for under $3k buy some 17"sm wheels, 320mm rotor and adapter and some tyres for about $2k and ur pretty much set to go.

Yeah I want full size. Ive got an 08 rm250 ill sell to get the motard so looking at around 5k ish. Will see what pops up otherwise like you say its cheap enough to convert an mx to get me going. You been to any practice days yet? I will get down to the next one for a peek around. Also, any reason I don't see many people running 2 strokes? Guessing lack of engine braking?, otherwise I could just convert my rm, but id prefer something aleady setup

mr_mike

Think people do run 2strokes, pretty sure a mate is looking for wheels to convert his YZ for racing. I been to a couple practises but havent been on track yet

Going of what you just said. Dont buy a bike.

Haha the reason Niva gave, is the only reason i have ever owned a bike.

I'm not interested in dropping knee or beating some magical number around a track. All i wanted was balls out speed and the HOLY SHIT factor when wrapping on the throttle.

DRIFT13
26-05-2013, 08:59 AM
Trust me, and MrMike. Going fast gets boring quick. You really want a HOLY SHIT factor, go around a corner fast! I thought I would enjoy the all out power and speed, but about 4 weeks into owning a 2005 CBR1000RR i got bored and sold it. I used to commute from Welshpool to Wanneroo at midnight 5 nights a week, so I can assure you it was fast, but fun. Not for long, waste of money I now think.

OH, and dragging knee around corners at speed is just so much fun!

Does anyone here own or have any experience with an FZ8N? They caught my eye while looking for a replacement bike last week, there's a 2011 model with 2,200km on it at Dale Britton's that I could pick up for about $9,000 as well as a brand new 2013 model (exact same spec wise) next door for $12,500 ride-away. I'm fairly sure I'd be better off with an FZ8N over a super sport bike, I'm just not quite sure which is the better deal (especially given there's a 3% finance promotion for the brand new bike from Yamaha).

I noticed there's an MT09 superseeding the FZ8 series shortly. On paper it looks great with an ~850cc 3 cylinder, +10hp and minus ~20kg, but I'm not a fan of the look and it will be more than $12,500 to take one home. The 3 cylinder motor sounds appealing though.
