Ok so, working stupid hours at work the past 6 months and just need a break. Me and 2 mates are going to Bali 12th to the 17th of June. Thing is I have no idea about the place. I don't want a mental holiday that I come back even more tired. Just want a cheap few days away. Now I am not staying anywhere shit either. I don't mind spending a bit extra to get a good 4 star or something like that. Preferably looking for maybe a villa close to the beach.
Anyone recommend any good deal on at the moment or just past experience. I know it's not got the best name but its the best option for a cheap short getaway.
Any help or advice is appreciated. :)

Dont take a body board full of Weed. They dont like it too much.
Otherwise most of the shit is in Kuta. Waterbom park is fun. Apart from $10 massages, drinking and the beach you dont really do to much else there.
Have stayed in seminyak and also stayed at the bounty hotel in kuta. Depends what you want.

Yeah would prefer to hire a villa being honest. What's the weather like there at that time of year?
Damo 69, if you come across any good deals let me know as I need to book something fairly soon.

Never been in June but i dont think it changes to much. Will be humid as shit and if it rains chances are wont be for too long.
Everything is cheap.
Seminyak is alot quieter as well as nicer but not alot around there to do.
Dont drink anything with Arak in it as it fucks you up.

I usually stay at the melia bali in Nusa dua, good relaxed hotel - slightly pricey compared to kuta but much more relaxing, is more of a resort than an hotel, would be good if you want to relax
Otherwise look at seminyak, stay out of kuta if you want to relax.

See that's the impression I get from it but as Damo stated. Where else do you go to just get away for reasonably cheap? I have nothing booked yet so nothing set in stone. I guess that's why I'm asking on here.

If you want someone to organise, Wendy from Jetset Applecross if the person to see. Organised my honeymoon for me, also organises the Antilag tours.
I'm sure others will also recommend her service.

just book accommodation and flights for 11 days, flights $600ish return, accommodation is like $500 split between two of us (so $250), also included accommodations/transfer/ticket for full moon party.
Also one night in Singapore on return trip
Kuta bugar for good massages ;)

As the others said, Thailand (Phuket)
Or Philippines is also OK.
You won't find 18year old aussie bogans having food fights and swearing at the McDonalds staff over there.

Thailand is a much better choice. I was in Bangkok in January and it is actually a good place to visit (insert ladyboy jokes here). You have a mix of street style cheap shit, whilst still having the option for higher end shopping. Just be weary about the Taxis. ALWAYS use the legitimate yellow cabs and ask for "METER", FYI they will try to tell you a fixed price without meter. They would say something in the range of $10-20 AUD when realistically the Meter will only cost $5.
Bali is a shit hole. Been there before and refuse to ever go again. So many fucking bogans. So many pingpingpingpings. Such a dirty pingpingpingping of a place.

stay away from this hotel, me and the missus stayed here last year. the rooms are so dated (30years old) and they use evaporative air-conditioning which as you can imagine would not work properly especially in a humid climate. it made the bed sheets really wet and disgusting. the hot water will take approx 3 minutes to arrive at your shower. however, the pools are nice there.
bali is a shit hole. apart from cheap food and drinks. stay away from dodgey money changers on the side streets, they often have really good rates but will short change you. use licensed money changers only.

Agree on Bali being a shit hole. It isn't even that cheap I thought.
Thailand isn't much better but is cheaper. And I spose you can go nice/less bogan if you wanted to.
If you could get a cheap flight i would go to Tokyo tbh.. It got way more reckless and can get away with more there, than it did on a bucks party to Thailand with 14 of us last year. Chicks are hotter, food is better, not really much more expensive and you dont have that shitty fucking 3rd world country smell.

just got back from Phuket yesterday, nice place although its rainy from may - oct. transport is a rip off there as the taxi's (tuktuks) are run by mobs. metered taxis are hard to find in tourist areas.

go to northern side of bali if you want to relax and enjoy your holiday.
Stayed in bali last year for holiday was great, though i stay away from night life most times...
did Water Rafting, water sports and snorkeling.
Book a day trip to Lombok for snorkeling
Might want to stay in Ubud, Seminyak or Djimbaran (south of kuta area) for quiet area.
We hire a car and drove it like it was stolen... lol, and just based on google map and google food search on what to eat and stuff.
Also watch out for side street money changer, they will short change you.
make sure you count and re count again...
they short change me for 1 million rupiah (100 bucks) damn fuckers.. and lucky i re- count it again.

Had a "taxi", brand new toyota 4WD drive us around the whole aisle for about 6 hours for 50 bucks Australian, pretty damn good. Speak to the people in the hotels for transport. Don't use the damn tuktuks.
ill be there from 14-18th June, couldnt pass up $285 return flights inc tax
staying at the outrigger hotel in seminyak and im splitting a suite with 5 others
i wanted to stay in a villa around seminyak, seem to be able to get one for $350 a night.
last time i went was 7 years ago as a 19yo and stayed at the bounty
pumped to go back and see some of the country rather than just getting shitfaced every day.

Some great information there guys. Confirms my suspicions. I'm not overly keen on Bali anyway but it's tying in with my mates birthday so it'll ultimately be up to him. I've a colleague getting here friend (travel agent) checking for package deals to Singapore.

I've stayed there 4 times over the past 5 years, had no issues - rooms are a little dated but is still better than the majority of kuta, and you pay for the location not the rooms.
Baller spec - stay at the ayana in jimbarin bay
Malaysia imho would of been a little boring sans F1.
Definitely not cheap cheap, especially the booze.
Bali has its good and bad.
Kuta is getting redone atm, so even the streets are looking nicer, footpaths are walkable now.
Seminyak is ok but a little boring.
Gilli Island - thats the one to go to for relaxation. If I ever go back thats where I will be going and there only. There is less hussle, no cars or scooters allowed, only taxi is horse drawn. People are much more calm and relaxed and it shows.
http://goodheartresort.com/ - 80 bucks Aussie a night for a massive room - huge bed, clean and modern. Breakfest included. Staff friendly as hell. Can choose to sit on the beach all day, but there is still a vibrant night life. 7km round the island, ride a bike around it.. sandy and crap for half of it but so many hidden little places on the other side of the island.
1.5-2.5 hour depending on boat you take - 50-100 Aussie return for the ride - dont get ripped off.

Full mix of that at the night markets was 25 000 rupiah - so 2.50. Fills you up easy, cooked fresh in front of you .

Get some of this - fundamentally powdered Red Bull - have it with a vodka shot - few of those and woooeeee
If you must stay mainland, I have done it all ends of spectrum
bounty
ballin villa in Seminyak
Legian 101 - About 80 a night also for a room - they are a bit small, but the hotel is really nice and includes gym, awesome roof top pool and bar, and very clean and nice inside. 700m walk from the main clubs in Kuta but far enough to not be bothered by it.

24/7 out the front so you are not paying stupid prices for room services drinks and snacks either.
If you want to get Aussie bogan spastic in Kuta

Roof of sky garden - actually really nice. Music isnt stupid loud, breeze cools you somewhat. Drinks are cheeeeeeeeeap.
Alley Cats! - hidden down poppies two - awesome night starter. Cheapest drinks in Kuta, always packed, always tons of talent.
I'm in bali currently in Seminyak. Staying in a villa with my own private pool etc. place is called the Elysian. It's close to all the beachside hangouts and not to far from all the shops. I've done a fair bit of walking but it's so hot you need relax time so it's good to have a pool in your resort.
Also don't expect a cheap holiday if you decide to eat at all the nicer places. Been to potato head and cocoon as well, wouldn't go back to cocoon in any hurry.

Hi folks,
Thought I'd dig this thread up rather than starting a new one.
Heading to Bali next week for a few days, to catch up with a few mates from France, who are en-route to Japan.
Have avoided the place for a few years and it almost changes every week with the rate of construction up there, so just want to know what are currently some of the good watering holes to hit in the Kuta/Legian/Seminyak area? Places with reputable talent get bonus points.
-Sky Garden?
-Alley Cats?

Had a bucks there late last year and a few of us spent an afternoon at Potato Head (in Seminyak). Good atmosphere and i'd recommend.
