A warning to all Antilag forum and Antilag Motorsport club members.

We've received multiple reports that an individual by the name of Alex Walton has been trying to scam a number of people selling their vehicles.

It is alleged that he visited a well known luxury car dealership in Perth some months ago, and attempted to make purchases. He allegedly provided a doctored remittance slip as proof of money transfer, which never eventuated. Thankfully the car dealership were able to avoid being scammed.

Just this week, Alex attempted to purchase a vehicle from one of our respected members. Here is what we know:

Alex Walton contacted me to purchase my car, XXX met him to view it. Said he was on AL but saw the car on Gumtree, quickly tried to build rapport with XXX while explaining he wanted to turn it in to a race car and mentioned he crewed for Steve Jones. XXX & Alex contacted me and he offered to pay by personal cheque then and there, to which I said no and would only accept a bank cheque so he agreed to return a few hours later with the bank cheque. A few hours later I received a call from him explaining he was no longer able to collect and pay for the car and would prefer to do so the next morning. The next morning he contacted me to explain his daughter was sick and was unable to come so offered to pay via bank transfer. I again explained that he would have to wait until the funds were released in my acccount before he could have the car, all the while he has maintained he is keen for the car. He has not returned any of my messgase since caiming he transferred the funds.

We believe he is operating on the basis that if someone is silly enough to sign the papers before actually receiving payment, they may be shit out of luck trying to recover their property.

We also received these details:

Alex Walton
0497 558 896 (used to contact me)
0422 812 418 (this is on his FB)
http://www.facebook.com/alex.walton.585

We are not encouraging any acts of violence or disruption to his family. He does have a child who is not responsible for the bad choices made by Alex. These details are provided solely to protect yourself if you are contacted while selling your vehicle.

Buyer beware!

He's friends with a few people on Facebook. Doesn't mean he's a trusted friend.

A knee jerk reaction doesn't explain the dealership investigation. We're not talking about some backyard independent car dealer either.

Not using the actual word, brown-nosing, but you know what I mean.

Side note: I often get friend requests from him on Facebook, seems to always have angry people posting on his Facebook wanting money to be paid back

Are the police investigating this as this sounds like fraud? And did we actually hear about this dealership story through someones friends-brother in laws-uncles-friend or through a reputable source (not trying to discredit any of the information or call anyone a liar but you know how things tend to get blown out of proportion on the grapevine).

Easy way to not get scammed, see the money in your account or cash in hand then sign papers over, don't see the mullah, keep the car and move onto next potential buyer.

Think i had someone try and scam me last week for my 2JZ-GE i am trying to sell. Asks if they can give me a deposit then take the motor to C-Red to get his mate to look at it, as they are going to throw it in his Cressida. I said no deal, as i'm not keen on it leaving my posession. He tries the old "it's a gamble buying motors, just want to cover myself". I said i understood, and offered to take it to c-red myself for him for them to have a quick look. Doesn't reply.

If you've had dealings with this guy let us know. Your identity will remain private.

In 2009 I was in the process of selling my old R33 and he came around and inspected the vehicle. I took him around the block and let him have a quick steer and he proceeded to thrash he absolute shit out of my car, clutch dumps and bashing limiter through quiet streets on a dead cold motor. He kept making nonsensical and "out there" comments with incoherent rambling about being a race mechanic and a drifter who was going to turn my stock standard daily into a race car.

I was a bit pissed off but he agreed to buy the vehicle saying he would return the next day with the money. Within an hour so of him leaving the text messages started offering to "put a deposit on the vehicle and pay it off at $180 per week", obviously I told him to disappear and stop messaging my phone, but the messages kept coming "my missus is pregnant and I don't have a a car" etc.

Don't know if it's any help but during the text msg he mentioned he was living in Ferndale at the time. He turned up on a red scooter (should of been a warning sign to me) with dragon stickers all over the front. I asked around at the time as obviously I was pretty pissed off at having my car treated like it was and he may have been a tyre fitter at Beaurepairs Cannington at the time but I can't confirm this.

Just a piece of shit in general - thankfully the other AL member wasn't ripped off.

He's doing this with a group of people. They've all been caught doing this, and are facing jail time. The issue; they've got away with it in the past and successfully stolen a number of cars from people.
As they've got away with it so many times in the past, and others haven't bothered to press charges, they keep doing it.

Actual hate.

And good on it,

In THIS situation, the seller was switched on and knew when to blow the whistle on a dodgey deal. There are others out there with out the connections of this place or that can get flustered around strangers and deals that would simply get taken for a ride, car would get taken and a shit storm would follow for them to get it back.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) in this instance no crime was committed. The dealership pursued the matter in other ways. The transaction would've had to take place for the Police to get involved.

Dealership should of contacted police during the deal. Cops would of come in to seal the deal and get a conviction.
I had similar thing back when i worked on front counter at Coventry’s Morley many years back. A couple were going store to store smashing lots of parts on a kalgoorlie panel account. They would give account number and ordering a load of sidchrome parts. 3 weeks after the memo came around a order printed off for that kalgoorlie account. came to $2000+. I went in and showed the boss. Contacted police. Boss told me to go back a box full of rubbish and a couple bricks. hand it over but get him to sign. As soon as i handed it over , they signed and security/ police were waiting at the front and nabbed them. This is how it should of gone down . For fill the crime and get a conviction

By not going to the cops at all, means this idiot can keep trying it until he finds someone to hand over the car, at least if the fraud squad were alerted to him, they'd at a minimum be watching him.

If he's said money has been transfered when it hasn't and he has no intentions to do so, i'm pretty sure he can be charged. i'd have to read up on that tho.

The cops have been informed in both cases.

Their comments were that since there wasn't a transaction, no crime was committed, however they've alerted the fraud squad and if he has a current court case pending (which apparently he does) it will also come up during prosecution.
