Would love to make a few but think cops will be all over these. Looks like you can download the blueprints off the net and print away.
Doubt it would fire strait off the printer. You would need barrel etc but still cool as a wall hanger. AR-15 would be mint...

Small 3D printers are cheap, I imagine materials is where it would get exxy, they were going for 600 bucks in one of the tool catalogues a while back.

Been considering one. It's like a dremel - once you get it in your head that you could defniitely use one, you just start looking at the world in a different way, thinking of a multitude of different things it'd be useful for.

After seeing the RepRap in action (the completely open-source 3d printer that can print all the parts for itself) about 10 months ago, seeing that it was pretty damn crap, and looking into it a bit, I've found that the Solidoodle 2 one was probably the best sub-$1500 value for money unit:
http://store.solidoodle.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=56

They've since released another version, the Solidoodle 3, which is bigger, but there's other cool brands on the market as well.
Kickstarter has lots of wannabe-printers starting up, pretty the only ones that have been meeting production targets have been meeting them about 4 months behind schedule.

As far as printing guns go, you can get MUCH better products from a simple lathe / CNC mill for similar price.
People have been making home-made guns for years and the cops know this.
That won't stop the usual fearmonger-brigade of media fuckwits and talking heads rabble-rousing the public...

I say buy 'em now and stock up on the plastic (not really exxy - $50/kg on average) before they become illegal.

Such a funny position to be in. A gun called 'The Liberator' in the land of the free, yet the government pulls its plans. Plans which would enable its citizens to make them as per the second ammendment rights. Poor old USA is fucked.

Guns don't kill people ffs.

saw this awhile back, very interesting, although I doubt it would be easy or legal to bring in the other parts (and ammo) for an AR 15 here in Aus

Depending on my work situation in the next few months I will be looking to pick one up. Will be perfect for all the little things I tinker on at home and it will pay for itself easily in saved time...

Current project is similar to this:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/bMMaZA-kk-8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Except, mine will be just 3 LEDs, spun by a motor, mounted on a rotating arm which is spun by another motor, which is all mounted on another arm which is spun by a third. Everything will be PWM programmable with Ardunio. Should be interesting haha.

Keen to print clip-together custom mouldings for internal car surfaces, because I suck at working fibreglass and like to have lots of gadgets in the car.

The best bang for buck I've seen at the moment is the Felix 1.5 kit, DYI
Come in at about $1500 235x 205x200mm table with a Z height of 0.05mm

1/20th of a mm is pretty much all you'd ever need, surely.
That clay stuff that you can rub over a car body work to fill in tiny bumps and scratches and then paint/buff over - is that stuff able to used on ABS? Could that be used before painting for a perfectly smooth surface?

My bonus is due at the end of next week - could be an opportune time for me to finally get one. Felix 2.0 would suit me fine for now (it certainly has one of the biggest envelope's available)

My own usage alone probably wouldn't justify the outlay, so who would be keen on paying for cost of materials + small fee to print gear with it? Fee would probably be per hour for large parts or per file for a bunch of smaller parts. You could even print the parts your own 3D printer for all I care, just send the files through and pick up when they're done.

PM me if you're keen.

If you end up with one, keen to get one printed off :)

Properly excited for the prospects of 3D printing. I think this vid appeared in the Videos thread a while ago?

In a Security Test, 3-D Printed Gun Smuggled Into Israeli Parliament
"After all the talk of printed guns and the problems they pose to traditional methods of perimeter security, we get a live demo courtesy of some rather brave journalists from Israel's Channel 10, who took the plastic weapon known as the Liberator past security into the Israeli parliament, and held it within meters of the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu."

Fuck I love that name.
