View Full Version : SRS Airbag Warning - HELP!

Hey everyone :)

I've been fixing my boyfriend's VY commodore for him and today I was pulling the driver's seat out, to fix an issue with some collapsed foam (picked up by the pits).
Because I'm an absolute idiot, I didn't think to disconnect the battery before the seat and as a result I've set off the SRS Airbag Warning on the display...
I know it usually needs to be taken to the dealership for a reset (which costs in the vicinity of $100-$200) - however, I was wondering if by any chance someone has a tech 2 scanner we could borrow?
The re-assessment is booked in for Monday, so even if we wanted to go into Holden - we don't have enough time!

If anyone can - or knows someone that can - help, it would be hugely appreciated :)
Don't really want to cop it from him for costing him money (even if what I was doing was saving some!!!) -_-

Hey, if he needs to check the oil or change a tyre - that's fine.
Anything more advanced goes to me or one of his mates (if I can't)...

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while?
It should do a self test every time the car is started so if it stays on the fault still exists.
Some pictures would help, maybe some of the car also.

Don't need specifically a Tech2 at Holden. You can just go to your closest Auto Electrician or Mechanic who has a scantool tomorrow morning and have it cleared.

Sure it will cost you around $100 like you say but at least it will be ready for the pits.

Can't get pictures at the moment - he's just taken it to work for the night...
I d/c'd the battery for a few moments, hoping it would potentially reset after a self test (I was thinking along the same lines) when it was started again. The same warning appeared.
I've looked all over the net and it seems like there might not be a manual reset... looks like it's one of those dealership bullshit jobs they like to overcharge for.

100 bucks is cheaper than paying 82 bucks to fail the retest

In that case I might know someone who can lend me theirs and be on my way...

That's what I was trying to avoid! :P

I fail to see the problem.

As in; he'll already be driving the work vehicle and his car will be sitting in the carpark until he gets back at 6am -_-

Haha yep. See this every day at work.
People would rather spend hours and hours of their own time trying to do fix *insert automotive problem here*, or run around getting quote after quote to save $50.
Or they could just take the car somewhere and get it fixed in a few hours and avoid the headache.

Your time is valuable people!

In my defence (which I'm not even sure is quite valid); I don't have a job... so I have nothing better to do than work on his car AND why should he pay for it if his missus can do it for free? The man works hard enough ffs.

Was more a general rant at customers, but paying money to clear a light would be preferable to rebooking at the pits IMO.

PS 2jzlux is not interested in pics of the car...

Fair enough... obviously if it can't be cleared in time I will rebook the pits, rather than throw away money outright.

I defer to my original answer; it's the only one he's getting. :)

Are you a mechanic? how do you get stuck with working on the car?

If your are always doing work on the car then you can buy a cheap scan tool with the ability to reset.

As I said; jobless. Though to be honest I enjoy it for the most part - been doing it since I was a kid and not about to stop. This particular fucking commi though *wrings invisible neck*.

I did have a think about that... but this one is being sold as soon as it passes the pits, and the cars I usually work on alone or with Dad are too old to have use for it.

Serious note:
Had a similar issue with my VX SS and the engine light, so I disconnected BOTH terminals on the battery ( just to be sure) overnight, and then reconnected in the AM. Light stayed off until I started fucking with stuff again, haha.

Definitely worth a try if you have a bunch of hours free.

McGee

Thanks mate, I'll give that a try tomorrow night :)

If the light is bothering you, remove it out of the gauge cluster till you pass the pits then at a latter time get the thing reset properly.

You do realise how electrical systems work right? One terminal is all it takes... Both is just a waste of time

I have a scan tool but it only works on VZ onwards unfortunately.

Pretty sure theres a guy on the Just Commodores forums in Perth with a Tech2 that clears codes for $50.

No I hit "new posts" and saw a thread. I then noticed your post which was making more work than needed. Not that I really needed to, as no one takes you seriously hear anyway despite the battery of posts that you spew out...
