Hi all

Looking a buying a couch, want a recliner one end and chaise at the other like a big corner unit.

Just don't know what is the norm for spending on a item and where to buy one.

Can anyone shed some light on it from their experiences, want leather or bonded leather.

I have been cruising the net looking and store hopping but just can't make up my mind.

cheers Big O

I got my modular from Furniture Bazaar - absolutely shithouse service and pretty average seats.

Only plus side is that they've currently got a 20% off all lounges sale - and they normally discount a bit more instore.

Personally I wouldn't get another seat from them.

I have bought sofas from Super A-mart before, reasonably cheap product, and the small sofas I got have survived the wrath of 2 dogs and a kitten over the last 1.5 years, as well as moderate human use.
They have a good range, plenty of options for material, etc.

on't put Fantastic Furniture out in the cold either, their cheap furniture is exactly that, but lounges and larger furniture tends to be better built. Plenty of fabric choices too.

Try to keep your room measurements/dimensions on you while you're shopping, then you're never caught wondering 'will it fit?'

The style you're describing is reasonably common, but if you want to drop mad $$, getting Natuzzi/Freedom/etc to make a custom lounge, in whatever material you want will be your best shot at the perfect suite.

Furniture bazaar for us, couch is not wide enough in width to support you, would not use again, delivery driver was a fucken peado for sure, and smelt like work socks that had been eaten by a homeless guy and excreted on a foothpath in the sun.

Been having a look at Super A mart and fantastic shit seems reasonable, but I'm sure it all comes from the same factory full of children.

Possibly a reason why their stuff is so cheap haha.

I've been told that anything custom, or in a fabric not readily made/available, there can be waiting times anywhere between 4-12 weeks.

Don't buy bonded leather. It's shit, it will just fall apart and crack. Proper leather or don't bother IMO.

I just picked up a 3 + 2 + 1 .... all electric recliners bar the middle seat on the 3 with extended warranty from Hardly Normal for under $5k

I originally went looking for a modular, but i cant put it hard against a wall in my house, so this ended up to be perfect.

If you are looking long term use avoid places like

Furniture Bazaar
A-mart
Ikea
Fantastic

They are all cheap shit.

I ended up getting mine from Harvey Norman with warranty etc for stains (which works), but we were seconds away from getting a custom one from Gascoine (sp?). Look around, sit on them all. Triple measure your space. And if you are going custom ask for the delivery time (can be 6 months)

try Pam's furniture in Wangara, had a leather modular from there for years and is still in excellent condition. Have recomended them to friends as well and they are all happy.

6 seat modular for around $3k was what I paid.

Having said that it all depends on what you want, my folks have a custom made leather couch and that was 15ish K.

I got one of these from Harvey Norman and absolutely love it. So freakin comfy.

http://www.harveynorman.com.au/york-corner-lounge-suite-with-chaise.html

Picked it up for $1.5k on sale and looked on gumtree and someone was selling for $2k second hand and reckoned they paid $4k for it a year ago. They've definitely come down in price.

As people have said. Measure the room twice

edit: i just remembered the actual size wasn't what they had it listed as so might be worth bringing a tape measure as well

Bought a corner chaise from super A-mart for around $800, shat itself in 6 months, had it replaced under warranty, shat itself after a year (the arse fell out of it)
So we decided to spend a bit extra and went to harvey norman, have had it sewn back together twice now from where the seams have popped, had 1 recliner replaced under warranty and one of the recliners is fucked (one of the springs has come out) in the 2 years weve had it.

I only just through out a rocker from my grandparents that was made in 1978 in Perth. It was outside for 5-6 years and only started to fall apart structualy after getting wet repeatedly last winter.

bought some baller couches from gascoigne

just went through and sat on every couch till i found one that i liked. The amount of times i fell asleep on the fucker as it was so comfortable, i am a big unit and i am talking lying down on the 3 seater leather goodness either side of me was delicious, wouldnt budge too much on price i paid around 5.5k for a 3 and 2 seater. service was good, took around 6 weeks for them to be delivered.

the women organising the delivery was a fucking bitch, worse than a contracts manager at an EPCM,

didnt tell me they were delivering them, so tried to charge me a fee - got away with that as i didnt recieve notification of a specific time and date only notification of "this week"
then a charge of circa $30 per flight of stairs as they couldnt fit them into lift - 4th floor apartment (8 flights of stairs)
then a fee for her being a fucking mole, her accent shat me to tears.

I have that couch as well. I also got the square thing that goes in front of it and the big circle bastard for under $3k with the micro suede protection.

Everything at A-mart is bonded leather. That's why HN charge more, they sell leather only.

If you are honestly considering A-mart go to the one on Scarb Beach road and have a look at their display products. They are all fucked. Ripped, bits falling off, sagging etc.

you get what you pay for.

Pa at HN Malaga is good to deal with (used to work with him) - has done some great prices for us over the years.

Parents just got a new setup from Anthony Murrays - pretty decent. Similar to 28 on this site: http://www.anthonymurrays.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=21&Itemid=66#!prettyPhoto[gallerye8ce867b59]/27/

Theirs differ slightly in design though, pretty much every seat though has a recliner and head rest set up.

I don't know if Merrys Leather world is still around
I have bought both my leather couches from them
One is 5 seat corner unit or 3 and a chais only cost $1500
The other is a 2 piece, 1 two seat and 1 three seat cost just over $2000

They had a store in Welshpool and another in Ozzy Park
most stuff was in stock or on the water and would only be a few weeks away

Not sure seemed fine last time I was there
I've purchased a lot from there cause I'm a Jew
All has performed very well for the price
Keeping in mind the same product elsewhere was 3 times the price
So in theory I could buy 1 use it till it fukt up buy another etc etc

I dunno I have a hate for Harvey Norman
Specially when Gerry was on tv whinging about people Internet shopping and him losing money
Bigger Jew then me..
