The missus had this problem last month and they sent her a bill for $600. One phone call and the bill was removed and free data for the next month...

i thought iphone had a 50mb limit for data over 3G/LTE?

unless you have jailbroken and left the 3GUnrestrictor on

iphone 5?

my i5 used 450mb in 4 days, with limited use, due to me going "oh fuck its using heaps"
the i4S would use 450mb in a month.

it's a i5 issue, have to go to settings -> general -> cellular -> OFF.
and use Wifi when you can

basically the apps are constantly sucking bandwidth in the background ... for the little circle number badges etc.

when the phone is locked wifi isnt on, its 3G/4G again, thus continues to suck up your data.

pain in the ass, to turn off cellular, but im using wifi when at home with Cellular off, and when i go out, i just turn cellular on when i need the net.

FUCKING annoying to be honest, but until apple sort something out with an update AGAIN, thats what ill have to do.
PS: they had an old issue in late 2012 with this, but a new update was meant to fix it ... guess it didnt

My fiancee had the same problem. She was told it could be heavy use of instagram and checking her e-mails, that bill came to $247.

So for the next month, she stopped using all of it, still managed a bill of $150. Thanks for posting that article, guess she'll be calling Optus to tell them the bad news.

Also have to mention, we've had the phones since October. She's done the same thing every month, used the same apps and stuff with the same amount of usage. All the bills were the same up until January's bill.

for iphone users why not jailbreak and install a couple of tweaks to counter the data issue.

install NCSettings or SBSettings and have the LTE toggle on your notification centre/finger tips respectively. im sure every iphone user hates digging thru menus just to be able to turn stuff on/off.

I am running iOS 6 but I have probably used a fair but of data because I tether it to my iPad when I'm at work but if you total all the separate data amounts it comes up just over a gig not the 1.8 that it says
