Gentlesluts,
I find myself in a comfortable $$ position to finally finish off the restoration on my LH torana, but with one small downfall... i dont know where to take the car to get it finished.
Im after a reputable shop who does car restos and paint. the car is nothing more than a rolling shell atm and requires panel work prior to being painted. Ive been to Farace already for a quote (which was fine and all) but im seeing what else is out there to compare..
If anyone knows of anywhere i can contact that'd be aces.

I had some chassis repairs done to clear defect notice a while back after getting lots of advice I was told to try Rowe and Sons in Maddington. Work involved removing chassis rails/spot welds, repairing/recreating sections of damage floor-plan and finally re-welding/painting whole underside.
Couldn't fault their work, that being said it was all covered in undercoat and paint afterwards. They took photos of the whole progress from start to finish.
The licensing centre inspector (Kelmscott), as soon as he saw invoice from them mentioned that he need not look into it further as their workmanship is second to none.
Only downside is that they only have 2 hoists, and wait time is sometime many months depending on size of job. They had just finished an complete bare shell build up of aston martin db5 which they had been working on for over 7 months.

Out of interest, what was their pricing like?

Like anything, it really depends on the job.
I had the car already stripped (carpet, sound deadening, seats, trim and even some of the wiring harness) and didn't require it to be reassembled as licensing centre wanted it all left out
If I remember correctly it was a little over $1000(cash) and I was told that they had severely under-quoted it as they had to make some bits up from scratch.. This was coming over 2 years ago and obviously would fluctuate.
edit: I have seen first hand a car Vulcan has done - basically a complete bare respray. Outstanding.

Im the painter for Farrace customs and restoration although I'm bias I've worked for numerous "resto" and "custom" shops and apart from myself they're the only shop I'd trust with my car.
No bog hiding repairs or fiberglassed plenums it's quality work that's blasted, sectioned and after everything is done then properly cavity waxed. not that I'm rubbishing the others mentioned.
My work speaks for itself http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gogos-CustomsALLOUT-Custom-Painting/237765309620564?ref=hl
Mods I won't bang on anymore.
Cheers

Orange peel is a kinda weird one to argue... Look at the new bmw's they got more peel than lady gagas face without make up.

Have a VG coupe and a 4 door that both will need paint and panel, the coupe more so on the panel/rust side, do you handle all that?

PM incoming. Yes, indeed. Its been sprayed and resprayed twice, so I'm not sure if its just me being overly picky (high standards) or if its acceptable.

insurer has redone the job once, it has been one week, and it just doesnt look right to me (i know its possible that i may be slightly anal and like perfection). the first time the orange peel was so bad you could actually feel the "orange peel", and paint job was flaking off.

Shit doesn't sound good but please don't name and shame here. I hate cowboys more than anyone else cause I always end up fixing it. We don't know the other side to the story is all I'm sayin.
I'm sure I can help but I'll be away till Sunday evening with gazza nats.

thats ok. definitely no name/shaming here. like ive said, it could be that my expectations are too high and therefore unreasonable?
get back to me when you have time. no rush, the car is still drivable, just the paint job seems "off" to me.
